Writing is on the wall for Izzo. I think he'll retire after this season (Bataan death march). FWLIW, not sad about it.

I disagree with this popular “take”. He’s among the top coaches in history and plenty of top kids want to play for him today as much as they ever did.
Agree. Tom Izzo is going to adjust to the portal and "NIL" money because they are legal facts of life. He's a competitor. I'm glad we have him in our league. Makes it all the more rewarding when we beat him.

Great comment. I am old enough to remember Judd Heathcoat. Izzo is one of the best. Don't get me wrong, I dislike Michigan probably more than anyone but I can't stand M. State either. That being said, they do have several championships and a slew of final fours. And, if there is a coach that gets the most of his players, it's Izzo.

If there's something you'd like to share with the group, trust me, this board would love to hear it lol.
Not an insider, or the one you are even asking, haha! But my guess would be that he hasnt de-prioritized getting a PG. he could be waiting for the one he really wants. Maybe one still in the draft process.

Just my guess.

Here is a link to Keds interview with TA. It’s a little shaky since it’s Ked but some really good content. TA talks about how he recruits, his life, and the upcoming team. Couple things I found interesting and/or funny.

TA said when he recruits he can only focus on a couple kids at once. Said he gets to know the entire family including the family dog 😂. Said Chester is wired different and can keep up with 20 kids.

Said Dain Dainja had just as much of a chance to be a 1 and done as anyone on the team. Had really high praises on him. Said he’d be starting actions like the PG

Called Ty Rogers more of a guard (in a wings body). Think we’ll see him with the ball in his hands more than we expect.

Good listen overall.

Chester Frazier said the same thing in his Illini Insider interview this week. I think it's just surprising because it doesn't seem like he's considered to be much of a shooter. But it sounds like somebody could be coming for Goode's minutes at the 2 spot!

I hope not. I'm very high on Goode. Winning teams usually have a guy or two like him.

Interesting that coach Tim said Ty most natural PG on team. Playing a 6’6” PG with a 6’6” Shannon, 6’7” RJ, 6’10” Hawk and 6’10” Dain would be a very different team than we’ve been seeing. Would be like a plus sized 88-89 team. After hearing that would be surprised to see them bring in a PG. Sounded like they were prepared for some early mistakes but felt like they had the pieces. Need another big but happy with the guard choices.
