Interesting that coach Tim said Ty most natural PG on team. Playing a 6’6” PG with a 6’6” Shannon, 6’7” RJ, 6’10” Hawk and 6’10” Dain would be a very different team than we’ve been seeing. Would be like a plus sized 88-89 team. After hearing that would be surprised to see them bring in a PG. Sounded like they were prepared for some early mistakes but felt like they had the pieces. Need another big but happy with the guard choices.
I love the potential of that lineup. But we probably need 3 of them to be 35%+ from 3 and 4th to be 33%+ from 3 to maximize it.

Shannon has shot 35+ so it looks like you can count on him. RJ has shown over small samples that he can hit at a decent percentage. Need somebody else there to become a knockdown shooter. BU talks like he has faith in Hawk, so maybe it’s him. But Dain has perimeter skills so maybe it’s him. I just truly think we need one more above average guy.

Dain isn't going to shoot 35% from 3.

Goode will shoot in the mid 30’s with more playing time. I’m sure one of the Freshman guards will hopefully be in that range also

I think at least one of Skyy or Epps will be on the court virtually all the time. I know people get excited about the tallest lineup, but the idea is to win games. And to do that, you want max ballhandling, shooting, and quickness on the court. That said, Ty does have good handles and vision for a 3/4.

Also if we don't add another big, I doubt you see Hawk and Dain starting together.

Jaden and Skyy are 6'2 & 6'3" respectively. They aren't exactly little guys either. I'd be shocked if we didn't get another big. Even if we don't end up with Nance for whatever reason (pro or different school), they will bring in someone ready to contribute. This is a good team with good minutes available at the 4 & 5. Someone is going to want to take them.

Their size also includes some strength. They’re both built like Dre Feliz rather than like Trent. My point on Ty was that he can be an emergency PG behind Skyy and Jaden. If BBV had stayed we would be OK in the front court but he didn’t and we aren’t. Realistically we are still a year away from a serious run in March due to youth. If we get a 1 year man now we still can fill in from the portal in another year if required.

Yup, you can’t go into the season thinking Hawkins and Dainja are giving you 40 mins at the 5, at least in my opinion.

I'm confused how you think we're a year away. If we get Nance, this is the most talented team we've had since 05. Does that equate to success? Not necessarily, but from a pure talent standpoint we are much better than we were even last year.

Agree. Really think CBS is missing the mark on their 20-26 picks. A lot of flyers in their IMO. So Zach Edy is better than the 8th best recruiting class and TSJ transferring in to go along with RJ? Same question of Sean Mcneil, Justice Sueing, and Zed Key at Oh St? Joey Houser??? Come on now, CBS. Do better. If we are the 6th place team in the B10 I will be surprised with the team as currently constructed. Add Nance.....forget about it.

This seems almost comical. I get that we lost a lot but yikes. It's Gary Parrish, though...

Is it really that comical? We lost an All-American and a bunch of senior leadership. Pre-season rankings are entirely based on the percentage of core players returning from the previous year + the overall impact of transfer additions.

They don't really take into account freshman unless those freshman are 5 stars / 1-and-done caliber players.

Inexperience is my reasoning. TSJ and Nance (if we get him ) have experience. Hawk is next with 19 mpg RJ with 8.5, Luke with 8.9. The rest of the rotation are Dain with 9 mins total and freshmen. Think we can make run at BIG but serious March run would be COY material. Would like to see it but would be huge surprise to me. Compare experience to 88-89 or 04-05 teams which were serious competitors and starters were all jrs and srs. We always overvalue the newcomers because we haven’t seen them have bad games. We also seem to undervalue defense and Trent, Kofi, and DMW were terrific defenders. Agree this team has a higher ceiling but the ladder will take some time to climb.
