Can a guy be an alpha when he scores less than 10 ppg? When he's a frosh? Alpha probably isn't the best description, but 100%, I expect Rodgers to be a big time leader (by example, mostly), right from the jump. Beyond stoked he's an Illini.

Anyone who reads this board knows, regardless of whether you agree or disagree with Underwood’s decisions in this regard, Underwood places a high value on a defensive glue-guy. If Rodgers can duplicate his U18 play in D1 he will spend a lot of time on the court, even as a freshman.

wouldn't Ty be similar to Goode in that regard? Don't expect Goode to start but I do think he will be a leader on the team! agree that not sure Alpha is the term we are talking about.

I remember being underwhelmed by ayo numbers in similar national team. Good amount of playing time but numbers were flat. Robert's recap says it much better than I do. Based on how the Ayo results played out, I feel great about TY and his illini future. Fortunately (or unfortunately for Ty) the roster doesn’t force Ty into heavy minutes this year. IMO coach might keep him on the floor longer based on results and intangibles

Good problem to figure out

Ayo averaged a lot more scoring than Ty did in that tournament to be fair.

I watched a good amount of the tournament. Rogers looks to have the ability to score, but just doesn't look for it as much as the other players. He seemed more interested in making the right pass to get an easier shot for his teammates, which isn't a bad thing. But I would like to see him be more assertive. Looking forward to his fit on an Underwood team.

We’re going to have plenty of scorers. Having a guy who looks to make the right pass to help those guys score is a great thing to have. Rodgers will eventually get his points.

Yep, one thing I like about his game plus RJ and Goode's too it they don't seem to make many mistakes that most young players do that get teams beat. I am hopeful that Skyy and Epps can limit mistakes as well. If so then we will be very tough to beat.

Nope. We have 10 guys capable of averaging 15 to 30 points and 4 - 8 assists per game. We will be the first college basketball team to average over 200 points and 50 assists.

Which of our 11 schollie players are you leaving out? Can’t be Lieb - he’s a lock for first round pick.

I recognize that the poke at Brandon Lieb is not hate filled. Simply a joke made at his expense. I get that. If the poke was at a player that repeatedly demonstrates poor sportsmanship…I would get it. Or directed at someone that is disruptive in the locker room…I would get it.
Should you have children, or plan on having children, I sincerely hope that others don’t put them down, mock them, make fun of them, or disrespect them if they aren’t the best at their activity or sport….especially if they have a great attitude, work hard, are a great teammate, and have a team first mentality…..like Brandon Lieb.

La Tulip talked about it on the pod one time... how he trained for a month to get into a game, got 1 minute of action in a competitive Big Ten game, his man backdoor cut him for a dunk and some fans were tweeting out things like "why is this guy in here?" and stuff... how to a fan that's a 15 second thing and you never think about it again but to the player those sorts of things people put out there really stick with you... definitely something to be mindful of....
