first, anyone picked in the second round is just really pointless. So I just consider those projections to have no value.
Second, there are lots of players on this team that can have breakout seasons that push CoHawk into a supporting role. Do I think that will happen? No.
People's projections on Hawkins are based on a few really great games mixed with a bunch of mediocrity. He's scored in double figures in two big ten games. He's had double figure rebounds in one big ten game.
I'm expecting him to have a good season but not one that will cry out for the first round. Hope he's a superstar. I'm just not seeing that.
Lol....ok. You understand that a 2nd round pick get's a guaranteed contract...right? So....it literally has value and is not pointless. Oh and Ayo says hello.
Besides that...he's still our highest ranked NBA prospect...regardless if he's a 1st, 2nd, or UFA.......and no one is saying he'll be a 1st round pick or a "superstar".
He's clearly an NBA talent with a very high upside.
If he is one of the best players on your team, and doesn't perform to his very clear expectations by people other than Illini (NBA scouts).....you are not going to be as good a team.
Those projections are based on more than "a really few great games mixed with a bunch of mediocrity". They are professional scouts. It's literally their job...and they have nothing to do with Illinois.
Saying your 6'10 Jr. with NBA projections isn't going to be a major contributor this year means.....this team won't be as good as if he is a major contributor.
I'm not arguing whether he will or won't have a good season or be a whatever round pick....just what it means for this team.
