as we spread the floor with 3 or 4 guys 6-9 or better on the court, i see an interesting high low game
in the half court.
I thought basketball was supposed to be played with 5 guys on the court?

Is it my imagination, or has the team practiced more at the Assembly Hall (yes, I know it is now the State Farm Center) than in years past?
Two things. Ubben and Huff are both under construction which limits practice options. Also, before DIA owned the Assembly Hall they had to pay rent to practice there which limited their interest.

When did the DIA purchase AH or State Farm Center? Was talking to a guy the other day....he was telling me that the University had always owned it....I didn't think he was right but wasn't sure since it's now owned by DIA

The University has always owned it. However it operated somewhat independently for a period of time. I knew a guy who worked there and he wasn't considered a university employee initially. Eventually transitioned to that status. I'm not exactly sure the reasoning behind it. It was funded by student fee backed bonds so maybe it had it's own budget because of that?

Not doubting you at all about the University owning it from the get go....just never knew for sure.....seems odd that if the University owned it that the teams would have to pay rent to practice in it.....anyway...been to many Illini games, concerts, and IHSA state final games (matches) .......as a kid I would literally get goose bumps when the chief did his thing at half time....just a great venue...with a lot of great memories...thanks for the info

actually , iirc, the "student body" owned it in some weird arrangement . back in the early 1960's, when built, the students were assessed a fee for a "few" semesters and paid for the down payment and then for years to service the debt.

From wiki
"the main concern at the time was how to pay for the building's $8.7 million price tag. The university administration decided to fund the project through a student fee of $20 a semester and issue bonds'

I agree. The first rule of advertising is to convey/ communicate a basic message or idea as clearly as possible. I dig the retro 70s-vibe…and style points are great but not at the expense of rule number one.

If it’s not even readable to virtually everyone…what’s the point?
