Mmm. I don’t think anyone thought Goode would be a starter if I remember people’s predictions here, including me. As Point-Illinois said above, kinda changes one’s perspective.
I would respectfully disagree....at some point in the season he would be in the lineup at the tip for various reasons. Now he is a big piece of the puzzle...gone. The team can try to cover his absence, but we KNOW that will not happen. He put in his time learning to be a huge contributor. and B1G warrior Maybe Ty can fill some of his contribution...but he can't cover the loss. Loved what Luke did as a frosh and was looking forward to a big step up by both RJ and Luke. Big hole to fill. Sickening and we all feel for Luke. BU certainly must think the whole world is in a conspiracy against his program. He may be right....and you know he is not paranoid...nor am I......right?;)

Underwood exaggerates all the time. Lol. No matter what he is saying, the lineup was always going to be Hawkins, Shannon, Mayer, Melendez, Clark when the season got going.

It’s coachspeak. Propping up his injured player who is a key piece for the team.
Underwood and hyperbole LOL. It started way back when he said Mark Smith was looking like Jason Kidd.

Just a little follow-up to the whole Goode as starter post that I made and an additional thought to add to everyone else's. Wasn't there talk or rumors that Mayer has been sick? If that is true, maybe BU penciled Goode in as starter for that reason since it is, as others have pointed out, an exhibition game so no need to over-exert a sick Mayer? Maybe Goode and Mayer are more or less interchangeable. Sometimes Goode starts, sometimes Mayer. Pure speculation. And speaking of speculation it will be interesting to see who starts tomorrow and then speculate on who replaced Goode in the starting line-up (that is, if it wasn't, as others have said, mere Coach-speak in the first place. In which case, no one knows anything o_O).

We have short memories on this board. Goode probably was going to start this week. Maybe next. I remember Da'Monte starting at PG early last year because of injuries, rest, etc. Hell, even CoHawk brought the ball down the floor a few times in one game. BU seems to be overly cautious early in the season, and one can understand why based off the injury bug that hits this team so frequently.

Don’t worry… Brad has a secret place where he can find Goode’s replacement.

No need for speculation…whoever is at the 2.

When I look at that all freshmen team watch list, I'm super excited to see 2 Illini on it, but also see Cam Whitmore...still lamenting not being able to pull him in...for me, he was highest on wish list. Kid is going to be a star...

Whitmore is a star, no doubt. Barring injury, 1&D.

But Whitmore and Rodgers is an exclusive-or. I'll gladly take 3 years of Rodgers over 1 of Whitmore.

Probably a post that won’t get a ton of love and it’s not going to happen, but I hope the fan base understands the extreme uncertainty and possible outcomes for this season. I don’t have exact numbers, but I’d wager we were well above 75% returned production the past two years. If it was above 20% this year I’d be shocked.

Especially if this team does mesh early, they deserve patience above all else. Unquestionably there is talent and enough of it to be a top 15 team in the country. But we were blessed with having a core of guys over the past 2.5 years to at least lift our floor to a very high level. The ceilings as high as it’s been, but the floor has a much bigger drop off. There will still be a lot to hang out hats on this season if we fail to live up to what we’ve been the past couple years.

We’re all starving for information, but how do they analyze a scrimmage no one saw? Yep, they got me to listen and I enjoyed their discussion. I’m just not willing to put much real stock in what anyone was “hearing”. Looking forward to the Quincy scrimmage we can actually see, but until we face off with the big boys we won’t really know where we stand.

In the meantime, I really appreciate all the info you’ve been sharing Joel. Please keep it up!

I think Cam is injured ( broken something) and is out for a while. Sounds like he should be an Illini!

Broken thumb on shooting hand to be reevaluated in early November.
