My best guess at starting 5 and rotation:

1 - Skyy
2 - RJ
3 - TSJr
4 - Mayer
5 - Coleman

6 - Dain
7 - Rodgers
8 - Goode
9 - Epps

10 - Perrine
11 - Lieb
12 - Harris

13 - Open

Gist of it is the first 5 is our best 5 players and most versatile lineup despite no true Center.

A lot less clear after that. Dain probably gets the most minutes. The next 3 could be based on who’s hot or who’s not. Good thing is still a lot of overall positional versatility where anybody could sub for anybody.

Ball handling and defense will dictate a lot of where this goes as the season goes along. Don’t see anybody out of top 9 seeing important minutes unless injuries or a lot of fouls come into play.

I'd put Epps at 6 then Dain, Rodgers, and Goode. And I'd have Harris ahead of Lieb and Perrine.

I hope, that you are selling Harris short. I am looking for him to be the sleeper of the group.
I don’t know if he’s necessarily “selling him short.” There are only so many minutes in a game/season. It seems likely that Epps and Harris are in competition for minutes, and from all I’ve read Epps is closer to a PG than Harris. The two bigs should maybe be behind Harris — especially since one isn’t even enrolled. But if he’s selling Harris short than who is he over selling. Epps? Goode? Rodgers?

Epps and Harris are both talented, but I still wouldn't be surprised to see them both struggle to get minutes once we get into the heart of the schedule, except when we are in bad foul trouble. I think TSJ will slide to the 1 to make room for Rodgers or Dain to get more minutes. This lineup is versatile enough to keep guys fresh even though it only goes 7 deep.

Skyy 30/ TSJ 10
RJ 30/ TSJ 10
TSJ 10/ Mayer 10/ Rodgers 20
Mayer 20/ Hawkins 15/ Rodgers 5
Hawkins 15/ Dain 25

Maybe I'm expecting too much from Rodgers, but I think his versatility, toughness, and defense gets him on the court more than the other freshmen.

I predict Sincere Harris to be an edgy, intense player a la Andres Feliz when he hits the floor.
The timing of his presence I'm unsure of.
When it happens, it will open eyes here and thruout Illini nation. Jmo.
I think he gets spot minutes this year and explodes into the lineup next season. Too athletic, too much of a junkyard dog to keep him off the floor after he gains some strength.

Harris won’t play before Lieb/Perrin unless Epps/Rodgers isn’t as good as we think. Simply because we need 4/5 play more than we need guard/wing. As I stated in a couple places, this is less about Harris and more about the rest of the roster.

I won't guess a lineup, but I will say that BU's mantra over the years is that Frosh don't play a lot of minutes because they're learning how to play college defense. Not saying a frosh won't crack the starting lineup, with this kind of talent, you'd expect it. But I won't be surprised if a few young guys aren't getting a lot of tick.

Perrin has no “e” on the end of his name. Don’t usually correct spelling on the Internet, but he’s our recruit. Krueger, McClane, Darin Williams, Webber, etc. all agree. Lol

Plus Perrin isn’t on the team yet, at least for first semester.

On the subject, I think Rodgers is first off the bench.

I don't think Ty will get more minutes than Skyy but I do think he will have the second most minutes played of the freshman

I agree with the need at 4/5 and I am hoping Lieb will be good for around 7.8 minutes (replacing BBV's) at the 5.

Listing lineup projections is this board's equivalent of a weighted blanket. When the preseason anxiety becomes overwhelming...start putting numbers next to the roster names and you'll feel better.
More so separation anxiety as all the board activity went to the football side. But it’s true, I can barely contain my excitement. November trip to Vegas to see the beloved is slowly taking over all my thoughts…

I'm a fan of Harris as well, but I don't see him as a Feliz type, I see him as a Kendall Gill type - will be tenacious on defense right away, inconsistent jump shot, but can get to the rim and cause the defense some trouble. I think Epps plays more early on because he can shoot the lights out, but Harris will be an important part of the rotation by the end of the year. Gill really blossomed starting his sophomore year and I expect the same from Harris

I think Harris will have an impactful career at Illinois, I’m just not sure much of that impact will be felt this year. I think he’ll likely see about the same amount of time this year that Podz saw last year. Like Podz, I think he’ll have a game or two where he plays a key roll, but barring injuries not sure how much time will be available to him. I agree that D will be his calling card this year.

I gotta say, nitpicking and arguing about the 10-12 spots on what's likely to be an 8 man rotation is peak Loyalty.

. Skyy Clark (Illinois): The one-time Kentucky pledge saw his stock slip some later in high school as he dealt with injuries, but at his best was one of the most creative passers you’ll ever see in high school basketball. He should get the keys right away to run the point for a new-look Illini group.

Plus, you can pull our your weighted blanket four months later when we blow a 10 point lead with 8 to play at Mackey and say "See, if we we're giving 10.8 mpg to Epps this would have never happened!"

Interesting projection. My (uninformed) thoughts:

No idea about Epps/Harris. I envisioned Epps backing up Skyy, but hard to say.
I expect Goode to see the floor at least 5-10 mpg.
Rogers might be one of the better sixth men by late in the season, but I don't expect nearly 25mpg early.
I suspect Dain will be asked for at least 20+ defensive minutes. There are plenty of weapons so I don't see us having much of a post game except to move the ball around, or occasionally go at a player in foul trouble.
TSJ will be over 30mpg. I expect him to get all the minutes he can handle.
I would be a lot more worried about the interior defense without Mayer. I don't know how good Hawkins/Dainja will be, but I feel like having Mayer will help make it manageable.

I honestly don't know what to expect this season. Lotta talented pieces that haven't played together. I could see them taking a while to gel, or establishing an identity early that gets stronger down the stretch. Should be exciting to see how the reload goes.

Last year the foundation of our offense was Kofi in the lane 17 ppg and 30% Plummer from three 15 ppg. Now both are gone.

When we need scoring I suspect we will look to TSJ, Mayer and Skyy. JMO: We need two of them to avg at least 15 ppg to get some consistency in our offense.

I think 9 guys will compete for 8 spots, basically. Although if we play more uptempo I could see that 9th spot being used more often. In really tight games in goes down to 6-7 oftentimes.
Will we see more up-tempo? Seven second offense? We'll see.

15 ppg is a lot, I'd love to see the list of teams that had 2 players average that last season. I don't think we will need that to be successful next season.

With no easy Kofi points to count on, I believe the Illini will struggle early. When your offense isn’t producing, where do you get sure buckets? It will take a while to know their identity.
