My thoughts on Spain

1. Ty Rodgers is not Magic Johnson
2. TSJ will lead us in scoring again
3. We seem to be surviving post Sky Clark/Jayden Epps
4. Disappointed we did not get to see Marcus Domask play
5. Luke has to look for his shot more
6. Moretti may be able to help
7. Nobody injured

I have one copium point related to #5 and the 3pt shooting in general. we know/believe that Luke Goode is a good to great shooter. At minimum no one would say he's below a 33% shooter from 3? Ok. He shot below that on the Spain trip. my guess is adjusting to the ball or some other factors made the shooting look meaningfully worse than it will be come the real season

I am a half glass full person also. I think, if Coleman and others aren't being forced into so many end of shot clock prayers this year, we should shoot considerably better from 3, or at least better enough to be average. And average should be enough to get us to top 4 or so in B1G, in the dance, and a decent chance of making the second weekend when there.

Iowa hit 44 threes in their three games and averaged 116 points per game.. LOL.

The last 2 NCAA Champions (UConn, Kansas) shot approximately 35% from three point range. Elite three point shooting is great, but not a necessity. We just can't hover around that 30% mark like we did last year. Ideally, you want to at least be in the upper-30s, but you can certainly have a very, very successful team with average outside shooting.

And they are likely to have a worse team than Illinois this year, no? I see them picked anywhere from 9th in the conference on down...

EDIT: Did they have to use that weird ball with the big white grooves in it, or was more like what they use here in the US?

Iowa under Fran has been good on the offensive end. Question is can they play defense every night and what happens when they go cold? To beat Iowa you have to play defense rebound the ball and never count them out. Ask MSU. I remember Oregon a couple years ago running them out of the gym because they didn’t have the athletes and basically gave up in the 2nd half of a tournament game

I mean, there was nowhere to go but up. One literally quit the team and left and other mentally checked out in February.

And hit your layups.

I'm not sure what happened in the unbroadcast game where Luke went 0-5 from 3, but in the game I saw it looked like the team could do a better job of getting Luke the ball when he has an open look. Also, alot of DGL's misses were in the expanded game 2 garbage time when the Illini were up by thirty, I think in more competitive situations he will be more disciplined.

That weird ball is that standard ball for the rest for the world.
