Yeah, that is only weight-wise bigger by 5 lbs on listing weights on the roster pages, which Underwood made sound way off on Media Day, when he said Guerrier is now at 235 when he lists at 220. Goode lists at 6'7", where Domask lists at 6'6", so Goode should be part of our "big" lineup., when done height-wise.

You also had that right that Goode is the better shooter (48.4% on FG, 42.1% on 3s, last season) compared to Domask (44.7% on FG, 34.8% on 3s), so that is a very good point for Goode starting over Domask.

The only question is whether we need a more "creative" scorer, more like Matt Mayer. Yes, Domask has done that before in forcing up more shots at SIU against pretty good defenders. If we don't want or need that (I hope we don't), then Goode should start and get more time than Domask (as you correctly pointed out). But if we need that creativity, then Domask might start just because he's more willing/capable to get shots off, say if Shannon was out somehow (sorry to even speak of that).

You convinced me to change my mind. Derek Piper also had a good example of Goode's game in Bloomington on 2/18/2023 which is convincing. Goode was 3 for 5 and 1 for 3 for a total of 7 points in that road game to Indiana. Illinois lost by 3 pts, but Piper was right; that was an excellent game for Goode. I looked through Domask's full season last year, and I couldn't find a single game where Domask shot percentages like that.
If 7 points is showing how good Luke is there is a lot of room for improvement . This is going to be an interesting season and none of us know what the best lineup will be. I believe there will be vetterv3 point shooting because we will have a pass first point guard who will be able to penetrate and pass.

Just rewatched it. Goode played good defense against Miller-Koop. He was often guarded by Tamar Bates, Indiana's 6th man. Derek Piper called this right. This was a legit good game by Goode. Had CH not been called for a taunting technical in the first half (after his own dunk), we might have won this road game and gone to 3rd in BT at the time. We absolutely can't blame Goode, who played great, and we're judging Goode relative to Marcus Domask who seems, comparatively to miss a lot more shots against weaker MVC competition.

IMHO, it's Goode's start to lose, if his stats don't live up to last years. Goode has the better FG percentage, better 3 percentage, better FT percentage, and fewer average TOs. Goode simply played smarter and better than Domask last year, despite have a broken foot, so he deserves the start.

Goode played a little as a freshman, then broke his foot and played a little as a sophomore. Domask has played a lot for 4 years. I'm going to wait until I have seen them play this season before I complain. They are totally different players if the Domask stats and stories are accurate.

I read these as Goode is great and Domask is great and we’ve got a great problem in trying to find court time for two great players. 😉

Even 6:29 would be great time for big man. Lou used to have basketball team run in Illini Open 5k on Orange Golf Course. It was great to run against 6'11" Derek Holcomb in his high tops.

Yeah, Dain running a 5:29 mile seems fishy to me just based on what we've seen out of him. I'm sure his conditioning has improved but that's a really fast time. I think I'll hold off on expectations of him running around like a larger Sencire for 20min a game, and will gladly be pleasantly surprised by whatever improvements he's made.

Domask = 35.9% career 3pt shooter
Guerrier = 31.9% career 3pt shooter
Hawkins = 28.1% career 3pt shooter

Seriously, why is Underwood gaslighting us?
My guess is they look a lot better when they're shooting spot up threes in practice with nobody guarding them. If you recall, Underwood really praised Grandison's elite shooting saying he would rarely miss and that translated to a 41% shooter. Since he's merely saying we have "really good shooters" and "we'll be fine from 3" without additional modifiers, the Brad translator says:

Expect a max. of 34% 3pt shooting in-game average between the three of them, but likely slightly lower.

This is pretty standard, and I always get a good chuckle out of folks' gargantuan overreaction to it. What do we want to hear him say, that his players all suck?

Expect to hear more coachspeak. Pretty much any time he's talking and there's a microphone present. It's what they do.
