Is anyone actually buying Peacock for when NBC is trying to force fans to watch there? Or is everyone just pirating/skipping those games? I, personally, will not now or ever be purchasing Peacock.
Just got an email from Xfinity (west coast?) that Peacock is free for the data plan I have. So I downloaded it and have a year for free. But I am otherwise a bit annoyed by how many games seem to be spread out over so many platforms. I’ve been playing whack-a-mole with trying to cancel these when I’m done with them and it’s been a losing battle.
A lot of subscriptions have gotten more expensive lately so it’s becoming more important to cancel them when you’re done with them. Add to that things like audible and Spotify premium and it’s really not difficult to find yourself with well over $200 per month (even $300?) in various digital subscriptions when you add it all up.

yes. $6/mo (for 2-3 months) is small potatoes. got to pay to play.

Fan were celebrating the BIG's new media deal. Now, some are carping 'bout needing to ante up. Some irony there.
Agreed. Despite my previous post complaining about the total cost of every stinking service going up and cumulatively killing my budget, I will pay to watch Illinois basketball. And they know it…

Guess I am a little surprised by the quality of game peacock is getting
I'm not. How else are they supposed to get people to pay for such a poor quality stream? I'm also completely shocked that they somehow managed to accidentally have the 3 illini games they're showing in 3 different months. What an odd and bizarre coincidence that comes out to 3 months of payments considering 1st of the month billing. And of course they didn't do that on purpose, because if they had, they'd have put a B10 game in December on Peacock as well. I mean sure, that's on next year's docket, errrrrrrr, ummmmm not docket, uhhhhh random scheduling generator, yeah let's go with that, but again, total coincidence.

But it's all good because nothing creates fandom like putting games behind a paywall on an unstable constantly crashing streaming platform. Oooh, maybe next year we can have the luxury of paying $40 to see the BTT on a brand new streaming service, Big Peacock Plus! A fan can dream...

I initially balked at the idea of paying ’the man,’ but, to Joel’s point it’s $12 for 6 hour’s worth of entertainment….if you watch with a friend or a group divide it out per person. It’s actually quite reasonable, especially when comparing to movies.

Historically haven't TV contracts been paid to the conferences, which are recouped by the networks strictly through advertising or a basic cable subscription? I could be wrong, but that's how I remember it. If there were a TV package on Sling, Hulu, Fubo, whatever - that included peacock - sure, I'm in. I'm not going to keep adding a streaming service here and there whenever the media giants decide they want to nickel and dime the consumers for another $5/mo. It's a bit of a jarring trend where every company is having an offshoot of their main channel with "exclusive content". I don't need it that bad.

Illinois ahead of Michigan State❓

Michigan State should be the best team in B10.

it's yield management, pure and simple.

WRT Peacock having video issues: purely subjective, but I'm not seeing it (subscriber for ~5 years). their footy streams are uniformly excellent. are there technical issues? of course, but they're pretty rare.

Let's be honest here -- Peacock was simply caught flat-footed by the immense amount of traffic generated by the national audience for that scintillating Illinois-Purdue matchup and failed to allocate enough resources to handle it.

Juggling streaming services is a pain in the neck but if you're willing to do it you can limit the damage to your pocketbook a bit. Pick your services by what sports are in season and what shows have dropped and you wind up only paying for half of the year for most of them. I'm guessing that at some point there will be a re-consolidation of all of these services (seriously, does anyone think Max will survive by dishing up the platters of crap they currently have on the menu?), but as with most things I also think that will wind up screwing over consumers in the long run.

You're never going to come out ahead when it comes to cable/streaming/whatever. This is just a different flavor of BS being served to you.

The times we live in and the stuff people complain about just baffles me. You can watch every single game of any team anywhere on the planet you just have to pay a few bucks for it. Let's go back to watching 1 'game of the week' every Saturday afternoon. I've watched plenty EPL on Peacock and somehow made it through watching the entire Purdue game last weekend with 0 issues from Peacock. Quit complaining and be happy you can watch all of your teams games anywhere you want in the world. If you want to be pissed off about something be pissed off you had to pay 5 bucks to watch that poor excuse of a football team on Saturday. Peacock stream was fine but good god the team playing wasn't.

TL;DR: First world problems, quit complaining so damn much about paying $5 for Peacock

Is it just me or is this schedule abnormally brutal? Lots of tough games
I think that everyone looks at their schedule and thinks that. Once the season starts, it sorts out. Last year, Michigan was on the preseason list of concerns, but they sucked. Northwestern, maybe not so much, but they cleaned our clock in Evanston. Honestly, we can be one of those teams that starts with a number in front of our name, but with questions at PG...it could be a struggle. By 12/1, the picture clears up.

Only time I have used it was with the in-laws at the beach and the live sports stream was terrible. Regular streaming was fine. Being at a vacation house no idea what the quality of the internet was

It sucks, but I'm not getting peacock jammed down my throat. Solid play on words, but point still stands.
For those of you complaining about Peacock, there is a cheap workaround if you have a student in college. The college rate is only $1.99 a month. As long as your child is a student, you can use your home address and email. Simply set up the account in your student's name and institution for verification purposes, but use your email, password and method of payment. You're only paying $24 a year for football and basketball. In hindsight, the quality of last week's game hardly makes the effort to establish an account worth it. But now it's set up for basketball and I get the benefit of watching a few old sitcoms like Cheers. BTW, you can stream on up to three devices, including your student's.

No you can't. I have no high speed internet available. I will be among the last to get it. Houses a mile apart, in those houses are people older than me, poor people, and Amish. Who is going to run fiber? There isn't even a tower close by, so the phone is also terrible.
