No problem if he does well. Where was he going to play here? Domask is going to take that spot even if his stats aren’t as good because he makes other players better. Hope he benefits from the change as he seems like a good kid.
Would Damask be here if RJ had stayed?

After listening to many analysts and commentators after the game I believe the secret sauce team ingredient is Quincy. His play at the four enables Hawk to play the five. He can match up to almost any four whereas Marcus/Luke would get bullied by many. They could play the position but would be a defensive weakness at that position rather than guarding the three. If there is a three they can’t handle due to their quickness TJ or Sencire can cover. Sencire or Justin can also cover a guard too quick for Ty. The fact that all five starters can handle the ball and are good passers reduces the need for a traditional PG. That allows for a lot of positional flexibility on the defensive assignments. Believe nine players will be normal rotation although the nine could change as the frosh get more experience. Despite the hype on Dra (and I really like him) it seems Nic has been the more effective sub in the small sample size.
I will be a real believer if they can beat PU because I don’t think they can stop Edey. To win they are going to have to stop him getting the ball. Other teams have done it but it is our coaches challenge.
I agree with almost all what you said except how to beat Purdue. The key to beating Purdue isn’t stopping Edey, as LaTulip pointed out he averaged 22/13 in their wins last year… and 22/13 in their losses. He is gonna get his.

The key to stopping Purdue is ensuring they get no production from the perimeter. We saw it when they lost to a 16 seed whose tallest starter was 6’7. They limited all of Purdue’s production on the perimeter and beat them outside, they didn’t try to stop Edey.

Run them off the 3 pt line, and then use Edey’s size and lack of mobility against him while on offense.

Couple other tidbits for those who didn't watch LaTulip. He thought Iliniois and Maryland were a lot closer to Purdue/MSU than is generally thought. Wasn't sold on Indiana. Mentioned that as the season goes and rotations solidify, players often struggle with limited roles, and given the depth of this roster, how players handle that will be important to how the season goes.

I think the key in general is just defensive pressure and intensity.

Constantly be throwing different looks at them and send double teams to Edey from the backside or when he picks up his dribble.

I think you’re right. Different looks. Keep ‘em guessing. And look to push on O.

Front him, double him, triple him, trap him, smother him…& generally guard him like the conference guarded Kofi the whole time he was here.

I really hope we put on the track shoes for that one; and pressure the hell out of their guards. That was their Akele’s last year ..they’ve got a young backcourt. I hope we exploit it.

3 B1G coaches (Izzo, Painter and Holtmann) and 4 if you include (Cronin) Not sure the criteria used for the list. If it is NCAAT success, no way Barnes should be on any list. Love Painter but his NCAAT record is problematic.

Underwood top 10 paid - not listed as one of the top 26 coaches..... Also problematic

Underwood must have pissed in somebody’s Cheerios, there are easily 6-10 coaches on that list that are worthy of washing his jock strap.

It's some guys' opinion. All you need to know is that Holtmann is on there and he is on the hot seat.

Those rankings are pretty bad imo.

Nate Oats is way way too low. Muss should be way higher. Cooley is overrated based on his track record. Think Larranaga is also being disrespected.

Holtmann being ranked over Brad is a joke. Brad should probably be somewhere between 15-20 imo and I'm not even that high in him.

Also, no Dana Altman anywhere to be found on the list. I'm curious if the people that made it even like watching college basketball.

LaTulip should be required listening for any Illinois fan.
He seems excited about the additions. Especially Domask. After watching the kid play for the first time, I am too. He complements everyone else. He has a game we have been missing. I like all three additions. I think this team can be better than 25 but I won't jump ahead of myself.

Seemed like Arkansas was successful putting pressure on the guards making it tough for them to get Edey the ball. Like to see Sencire all over Brandon but Ty or TJ can keep him uncomfortable

Can't take away the fact that Dan Hurley has a natty and many of those guys don't but wow number 7 seems a bit high.

Went to drop this in the NIL thread, but it's locked, so putting it here. Would be interested to hear comments on it as I don't know much about the rules, or how much the NCAA is still overstepping their authority.

NCAA still being the NCAA (Lawsuit)

Reports are that the twins were contractually paid 33k/month to play for Overtime Elite Academy. That beats most foreign basketball leagues. If this isn't enforcable, then Lebron should fulfill his lifetime dream of playing with Bronny this year -- in college.
