Same outcome but if you had your preference

Win like Illinois did - pulling away late
Win like Kansas did - holding on to 20+ point lead to win (ignore late foul call) a close one

Nice. I think some media types need to see these stats.

I'm sure they know them! I wish I could get my hands on TV ratings for our 2005 team, as it really was crazy how many instate folks jumped on the bandwagon from Chicago to Cairo. I know our National Championship Game vs. North Carolina still remains one of the most watched in the last 30 years.

I'll always choose win goin away. Always. Never let your opponent think they have a chance. Break their will and watch their shoulders slump as they hang their heads and study their shoelaces

Also, the 2005 team was lead story on ESPN every night they played because there was a NHL strike that year.

Dee was arguably the face of college basketball plus the Illini were very good and very exciting to watch. Played a very modern style with 3 small guards shooting a bunch of 3s that you didn't see as much back then.

Plus, the team was basically all Illinois kids except for Deron. Roger Powell Jr was from Joliet(his dad was also a really big deal in the area), Augustine - New Lenox, Brown - proviso, and Head - Chicago. You even had McBride from Springfield.

Great interview with DGL pre-Duquesne game. He goes into some of his confusion and uncertainty on his role previously and some talks he's had with Coach and Ty Rodgers that have helped him see the bigger picture. This kid cares and this kid gets it. He isn't going anywhere. One day we will see the fruits of his labor and people will be chanting DGL at the State Farm Center

Josh, Coach and Players - thank you for a great season and allowing us fans to still be discussing this season, S16 opponent and a deeper run into NCAAT. So glad we are not ONLY talking about Coaching carousel and NIL entrants.

Congrats on winning BTT
Congrats on playing in S16
Congrats on peaking in March and more 2024 success.

Pretty sure most people forgot how an average freshman plays. Sure there are plenty of college ready guys, but factor in having an extremely old team like we do any anyone but the absolute best is going to be buried and have an extremely short leash.

I never wish transfers upon anyone, especially someone with the clear offensive talent that DGL has. I hope now that BU has had a few guys develop under him that more freshmen stay and accept a bench role early in their careers. I think it would do a lot of them wonders and there’s plenty of examples to back that up.

Illini score the fifth highest rating for Thursday's First Round games, which is actually quite impressive considering we were on (presumably) the least visible channel in TruTV and some of the games we beat out:

6.21 million for #14 Oakland over #3 Kentucky (CBS)
4.60 million for #11 NC State over #6 Texas Tech (CBS)
2.51 million for #10 Colorado State over #7 Texas (TNT)
2.02 million for #11 Oregon over #6 South Carolina (TNT)
1.79 million for #3 Illinois over #14 Morehead State (TruTV)
1.61 million for #4 Kansas over #13 Samford (TBS)
1.50 million for #10 Dayton over #7 Nevada (TBS)
1.47 million for #2 Tennessee over #15 Saint Peter's (TNT)
1.22 million for #11 Duquesne over #6 BYU (TruTV)
1.20 million for #7 Washington State over #10 Drake (TruTV)
1.12 million for #5 Gonzaga over #12 McNeese (TBS)
874k for #2 Iowa State over #15 South Dakota State (TruTV)
794k for #3 Creighton over #14 Akron (TNT)
766k for #2 Arizona over #15 Long Beach State (TBS)

For some reason, UNC/Wagner and Michigan State/Mississippi State are not listed. However, for us to outdraw teams like Kansas and Tennessee (both of whom were on "better" channels) and with presumably very little help from Morehead State fans is impressive, IMO.

Someone better not tell the Iowa State message board that we do, in fact, have fans or that we almost doubled their rating on the same network. ;)

Any credence to BU shifting this year's offense based on a Jay Wright suggestion?

There's a link in another thread to an article that mentions this also.

Great weekend of games and congrats to the team for getting that monkey off our backs. What a great group of players that is 4 games away from raising hardware.
