Any current assistant coach who would be better than Tim Anderson is a possible head coach in a year.

TA is not returning to the program …
Payroll isn’t my expertise but he isn’t going to be getting paid if he isn’t around the program … And I assume everything is all settled with the $$ considering the announcement …
Sounds like the announcement wording is just all about being as vague as possible so both sides (who appear to part on not terrible terms) come out of this looking clean so no shade for either side. I assume BU and TA talked about this and agreed on this approach being best for all once it was determined that TA wasn't going to stay on.
I think TA is gonna regret the decision, which is ironic when he's talked in the past about players making a mistake leaving the program.

The regret for leaving a program early is the missed opportunity to develop. So for TA the issue would be did he miss out on some sort of development. I don't think he does.
Huge loss. It was nice to have Chicago back and a lot of that was because of tim.
If he really wanted as much money as OA that was a miscalculation by him. He has ,what, eight(?) years of experience as an assistant coach, and four of those were at DePaul, likely the lowest of all P6 schools. He has proven to be a great recruiter, but he doesn't have nearly the resume or track record as Antigua. The elite 8 run was great. He was a part of that, but only one piece. In my opinion, you need more sustained success to justify big paydays. Sure Illinois isn't going to the elite eight every year, but the program has higher goals.
Perhaps Brad's flirting with other jobs at several points has brought that mentality to the staff? The lack of stability among the players and coaches is concerning, but thus far Brad has been able to use the opportunities for improvement.
Not worried about development so much as the money. He clearly wants far more than his $550k (some sources say $700k) salary, but choosing Memphis, a school that pays its people far less than ours, as his bluff-job was a bad move, because it's obvious now they really don't have the money to pay him and the school called his bluff. So now he's jobless, won't get a raise, and will have to start over somewhere probably making less than he does now.
You're implying a lot of things that you don't know. You don't know he was "bluffing". You don't know what he'll end up making. And you don't know what he'll make while not coaching.
I really don't get the need for some people to trash players and/or coaches who move on from our school. There are so many factors that go into these decisions that no one here knows that's it's ridiculous to think that you can judge the merits of any of these moves.
Yeah, this looks more realistic to me. Since I'm thinking our top three scorers will be freshman this season and that we went 16-4 last season with a more experienced team, so redwing's pred seems about right. It's true there is no Edey to deal with this season, but I see even that last senior-night game against Purdue as a potential loss, since Purdue is still a very good team.
I am hoping for an awesome run (maybe with Tomislav finally eligible to play) from late Jan to mid Feb. Even 15-5 has us close to a big ten title. I expect poor shooting nights on the road will account for some of these losses, especially with a young Morez, who we can't count on to simply take over when our 3s aren't dropping.

Agree. Or the need to label moves as a mistake by those who don’t know the person, who don’t know the person’s career or life plan, or the entire circumstances.
I wish TA was staying, but if he feels the need to move on for whatever reasons then I say thank you for your contributions to the Illini’s success and best of luck. He’s the only one responsible for his happiness. If he felt slighted or isn’t happy for any reason, then he should do what he feels is best for him. He’s a talented coach and will land on his feet — hopefully at a place that meets his needs and further prepares him for more success down the line.

I guess you can count Morez, though he's from the burbs. Harmon as a transfer? Shannon as a transfer? That's it since Anderson has been here.
Kids don't stay at their high school anymore. Well over 50% of kids in the top 100 are at private schools. A good amount at local Catholic schools, but more at these prep schools that have become basketball factories. So quite frankly, if Tim Anderson interviews with me and says I can lock down Chicago for you, and Coach B interviews with me and says I can get you kids from Montverde every year, I'm going with Coach B in a heartbeat.
I suspect Tyler's growing influence had something to do with it.
I follow TA’s IG and he posted an incredible story on where he is from and how focusing on saving what’s still together, rather than fixing what’s broken. He sounds very principled. Not just about money but discovering and giving others growing up in his position opportunities to rise out of what’s broken.
Maybe Memphis is easier to do this. Our program is only about winning (not meant negatively, but may not fit everyone’s values).

Chester wants to be a head coach. You're not going to get that job if you don't run the offense or defense and aren't the top recruiter. Chester also didn't like that his recruits were all getting recruited over.
With Anderson, money surely can't be the only issue, as alluded to. Because, while I realize everyone in the sports world is out there milking for every penny they can get, there is no metric out there where Anderson is on Antigua's level.
Underwood has made it abundantly clear, he's going to make whatever move he thinks will lead to more wins. If that means a player leaves, he just gets another. If a coach leaves, he just gets another. I'm sure there are plenty that don't like that approach, but as long as the win total remains high, a vast majority won't care.
