They are gonna want money….
Are they seriously going to pay Ty his full amount? I know it sucks for him but this isnt playschool anymore. Why should they pay a player that is sitting an entire year on the dl? Im not saying dont pay a player anything, but if Ty was a 3 million dollar transfer player, it seems pretty detrimental to the school to pay him the entire amount if he is out the entire year. These guys are getting paid to play basketball. They should be taking a pay cut if they are not.

While the contracts are non-traditional, they’re still contracts. Remember, they can’t be pay-for-play.

Lol The other B10 schools would love for us to not pay players due to injury.

I’m sorry to be persnickety…but that’s not a two handed jumpshot. That’s a two handed set shot. He barely leaves his feet on the release. His shot pocket is WAY low. He brought a few of those almost to his waist.
(Honestly, Marion’s shot looks like something out of the 30s and 40s…before they figured out the one-handed shot with proper rotation and the guide hand on the side of the ball.)

A true jump shot is designed to have an above the head, release point; occurring at the peak of one’s jump.

We saw Shawn play hundreds of games & I still don't know how he ever made one. Worst form on a shot ever.

Are the Rockies seriously paying Kris Bryant his full contract even though he’s played in about 37% of the games since he signed it?……

Yes.

Yes.
To be fair, the Rockies' insurance is probably paying for a portion of his salary. I doubt that exists in college yet since we are just now seeing colleges themselves being able to pay players.

I suppose the player or even the school could take out an insurance policy that would make up some of the difference...

Reps over mechanics
Shaq shot thousands of free throws in practice but no matter how many reps he had he still couldnt make them in games due to poor form. My friend who coached him in the 1994 FIBA World Cup games in Toronto tried to get him to shoot them with just the right hand only. He had good success in practice but Shaq told him he didnt want to look like a sissy in the games & wasnt going to do it.

This is why nobody does underhand free throws even though are are proven to be more accurate.

I've always thought that they wanted more consistency for jump shooting. The theory being that if you shot FTs similar to how you do your regular shot, your regular shot will benefit.

If it was purely vanity, I'd expect a coach or someone, somewhere in the hs, college, or pro ranks to adopt it if it were statistically better. No idea though.

A few have, most famously Rick Barry who shot 90% from the line, did it. Shaq famously told Barry he'd rather shoot 0% from the line than shoot underhand because he was "too cool for that."

Wilt Chamberlain, a career 51% FT shooter, shot his FTs underhand in his 100 point game and went 28/32. He doesn't get to 100 if he shoots anywhere near his career average. But he subsequently abandoned his experiment with underhand shooting and in his memoir said "I felt silly, like a sissy, shooting underhanded."

It's 100% vanity.

On the other hand, the top 7 free throw shooters of all time (and like 99 of the top 100?) shot free throws traditionally. Why shoot it like Barry when you can shoot it like Steph...and look less ridiculous in doing so?

No doubt vanity plays a role and yeah, if you've reached Shaq level free throw shooting ineptitude, it can't hurt to experiment with different techniques. But you also can't fault a guy for using the same technique as 99% of history's greatest free throw shooters.

Well...most players can't.

And even most players who shoot well traditionally could shoot better underhand. It's physics.

And just because everyone does it doesn't mean it's optimal. There was a time when professional men's tennis was dominated by the one-handed backhand. All the best players used one-handed backhands. Now you rarely ever see it, because the two-handed backhand is just better.
