Is Ty expected to be back around the time of conference play?
if we get that defense back to top 35, then all we need is to be top 10 on offense to profile as a top 10 kenpom team overall. if we push that offense up to top 5, we start knocking on the door if top 5 kenpom if you look at the last few years.Kenpom defensive rankings under BU:
2018 - 129th
2019 - 110th
2020 - 35th
2021 - 7th
2022 - 29th
2023 - 26th
2024 - 80th
2025 - 40th
So, we haven’t been a top 25 ish defensive team for 2 years………On July 3, 2023, Hamer was elevated to a defensive coordinator equivalent…….direct correlation!!!
Now we have a proven defensive coordinator. I predict a return to previous years under Bradislav back into the 2022 and 2023 ranges. Praise the Lord!!!
Very CoolAlright this is a work in progress but I wanted to upgrade my excel chart to a website. The mobile version isn't as good as the desktop version, but I will continue working on it. Always welcome input as I go.
The Boogie Fland love is surprising. He barely played in the tournament games even when healthy because he was ineffective- many on here did not want him to come here at any price. So to think he’s the 21st best player in the country is a far cry from thatThese lists are always fun.
TKR seems a bit high at #7? Great college player, but fringe 1st team AA? Tugler at 17, he's a top 3ish defender but very little game on offense- he's a bit too high if I was making the list as well. A lot of the freshmen are rated higher than I'd have them. Stojakovic 60 versus Sarr at 84 is interesting. I watched Cluff the other night and he did not like a top 100 player to me.
Purdue, Florida and UConn with 4 players:
Purdue (Smith 1, TKR 7, Loyer 59, Cluff 87)
Florida (Haugh 14, Fland 21, Condon 32, Lee 88)
UConn (Ball 18, Karaban 26, Reed Jr 49, Demary Jr 68)
12 other teams with 3 players:
Duke (Boozer 4, Evans 53, Sarr 84)
Texas Tech (Toppin 3, C.Anderson 42, Watts 91)
BYU (Dybansta 5, Saunders 29, Wright 46)
UCLA (Dent 6, Bilodeau 58, Dailey 75)
Kentucky (Oweh 9, Lowe 35, Quaintance 52)
Houston (Uzan 10, Tugler 17, Sharp 25)
St Johns (Ejiofor 12, Hopkins 41, I.Jackson 57)
Gonzaga (Ike 20, Grant-Foster 70, Huff 78)
Iowa St (Lipsey 27, Jefferson 39, Momcilovic 82)
Illinois (T.Ivisic 31, Stojakovic 60, Boswell 72)
Arizona (Bradley 43, Peat 66, Burries 93)
Arkansas (Acuff Jr 45, Knox 62, Wagner 83)
I think the end of 2025 is the goal there. Is Ty expected to be back around the time of conference play?
Yes...Dumb question- for how long do they have to be careful with him? I don’t recall what his injury was, but is it expected to be one of those things that just nags at him and affects his performance till he is 100%? Or are they being careful so he comes back at 100%?
Yep, it is also going to be interesting with NIL next season to see how our $$ will compare to some if they left being a mid to late 2nd round pick. I am skeptical of anyone being a first round pick next year. If we have the $$ to retain these guys our team could be experienced and even better next year.Illinois will be interesting this year - and it appears for the foreseeable future? - in that they are going about roster construction very differently than most schools. It is a very interesting concept, going after “European Pros” in reality? If it works, look for many other schools to look at the model. It really is an exercise in financial responsibility vs supply and demand constraints?
This is college sports in 2025![]()
My dad’s name was Jerry West I am definitely all about it
Maybe people are still focused on football and haven’t pivoted away yet (although, after the Washington loss, that might be happening sooner). I plan on going, and about three weeks ago (it may have even been longer ago, time flies), I checked the various ticket-selling sites, and maybe I didn’t read them correctly, but it seemed that most of the good seats were already taken, and the good ones that were still available were priced pretty high. One was $1500, and another was $1000, although those were outliers. Most were in the $300 or so range (I think), and for now, I don’t really want to pay that much. But I am an oldster and still haven’t gotten over how high prices are, so for all I know $300 may be a bargain. Like I said, it was 3 weeks or maybe more ago, so I may not be recalling correctly. I thought I would wait until closer to the date, and check the site that resells tickets. I think that one is Stubhub.I checked the site again, and there has been unfortunately very little movement with these ticket sales. I'll admit I am a tad biased, but I do think it would be a not-ideal look for the UC to look too empty for this game ... just sends a bad message about our program, fan base and aspiring to being the default "home team" in Chicagoland. I'll be curious to see what ticket sales start to look like (A) as it gets a little closer and (B) if we are able to start 3-0 and beat Texas Tech.
Does anyone know if the DIA can run any types of specials for a game like this? Or is it entirely in the hands of the UC? Not sure how that works with neutral site games that were originally our home games. Anyway, calling all Chicago Area Illini fans, because you can get really good seats for this one for not that expensive at all!
How are you scraping times for games? Monday's Illinois game is the right time (ET) but Thursday's is wrong (it's the same time as Monday's game).Alright this is a work in progress but I wanted to upgrade my excel chart to a website. I would say 8 minimum. Depends on the defintion of “meaningful minutes”. So, for reasons which I won’t go into here, I expect the starting lineup to be KB, MP, AS, BH and TI. But swapping KW for MP, or Mirk for BH, I think it won’t change anything. Based on what we have seen so far and from comments from insiders and BU himself, how are you not going to give Mirk, Z, and KW meaningful minutes. So that is 8 right there. Even if we switch Mirk for BH, I think Ben will still play meaningful minutes. That is based on comments about how improved he is, put on weight, feels more confident and comfortable and this is his second year in the Big Ten. And BU has said he wants to play Jake a lot, which may be coachspeak or wishful thinking, and given Jake played about 10 minutes a game last year, would a few more minutes, say 15 total, constiture meaningful minutes?Probably not too far from the truth for us, although my orange tinted glasses make me feel like Tomi in particular will be more valuable than that. Hard to assess Mirkovic, Petrovic, and Wagler till they see more time on the hardwood but all signs are pointing to a higher floor at the least for this team. Also, there are five players on a court and 7-8 will play meaningful time - I’d stack our starting 5 and our rotation as a whole against most of these teams. Excited to see what happens this year regardless.
Last year in the B1G, the average bench player played 10 mpg. So that's probably a good place to start.I would say 8 minimum. Depends on the defintion of “meaningful minutes”.
That's the plan - I hope to have it mostly automated with very little interaction with myself! Unfortunately I am out of town next week, so I wont really be able to get to testing things until the weekend. This looks really good, thank you for putting this together. If you keep it updated throughout the season then it’s definitely getting bookmarked for me
Should be able to - looking into it!This is awesome! My only suggestion... is there a way to get tv network with each game?
Good catch - should be getting it from ESPN which shows 8:30 so not sure why my code is saying 7 - will look into it as well as the channel! How are you scraping times for games? Monday's Illinois game is the right time (ET) but Thursday's is wrong (it's the same time as Monday's game).
But I'll second the request to add broadcast information if possible from scraping
Exactly. Forgetting who’s who on the team, 7-8 players should see those 10+ minutes. I’m guessing the ninth will see maybe 4-7. The 10th will see spot minutes here and there, in more rare cases. Anything beyond that is probably just practice squad / scouting team. I seem to recall that Brad’s lineups tighten up quite a bit once we get into conference play.Last year in the B1G, the average bench player played 10 mpg. So that's probably a good place to start.
Teams who made the tournament had 8 players averaging 10 minutes or more per game. Teams who missed the tournament had 9 such players.
As do most coaches/teams. Depth is a nice luxury in case of injury, foul trouble, etc. But most coaches prefer to have their best group on the floor as much as possible. And the more your best players are on the court together, the more smoothly they function together.Exactly. Forgetting who’s who on the team, 7-8 players should see those 10+ minutes.
