The capri era 🤮

I think the early 2000s Whites and Oranges are fine. Have never had strong opinions on them either way. But I've always liked the Blues. The black and midnight navy was tough and fitting for the style of play those teams employed.

I liked the blues but not the ones we wore in 2006 with the weird silver stripe, haha:

What you are watching (the first time we ever wore these) is our #6 15-0 Fighting Illini get absolutely throttled in Iowa City in 2006 to bring us CRASHING back down to Earth after we had just won 44 of 45 regular season games and 31 of 33 games vs. Big Ten opponents. Those hold an especially traumatic place in my heart, haha. This was the beginning of the bizarre period where people thought gray was the end-all-be-all.

If my memory serves me, I believe Nike basically gave an identical jersey to every team in their portfolio with the team colors and a silver shoulder and they were all equally hideous.

Similar to the sideline/warmup shirts Nike rolls out for the NCAA tournament with some clever catchphrase - why would you want to look exactly like every other Nike team?

The first time we wore these was @North Carolina earlier that season in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

2024-25 season seems as good of time as any to bust 'em out. :cool: Hopefully the quality of our 2024-25 team is infinitely superior to the 2014-15 team that welcomed them back for the 10-year anniversary, lol...
