I love how no one seems to know how old us Millennials are. We're in our 30s and that vast majority of us still learned cursive in 3rd grade.
Millennial seems to be the catch-all term for "Anyone younger than me that I disagree with."
Then again Boomer now seems to be "Anyone older than me that I disagree with." So I guess it goes both ways.
As a X-er whom the young confuse with a Boomer (God forbid!), I appreciate this clarification. And I resent the implication that I'm any less capable of scowling "Get off my lawn!!" and then shuffling back onto the porch in my socks and Tevas than my immediate elders are.

I will admit that my mind was blown when I learned that my daughter was not being taught cursive in elementary school ~ a decade ago. I mean, it's an imperative if for no other reason than to enable her to appreciate our late '70s basketball jerseys.

Meanwhile, Gen-Xers be bridging the gap like:

lol...easy now...no need to get your....Caboose.... all crooked! My kid is a Millennial and knows cursive...as does my close friend....a fringe Millennial (82'). So I know exactly how old they are!

Ima teaser...and just recently watched the comedian's routine where she lays out that Gen X'ers plans to take over the world.....are written in cursive.

You guys can't stop us.

It's kind of just an educated feeling. I do work in branding, so I have a little bit of familiarity with these types of projects. But it's also really hard to project what will stick.

People associate stylized script with vintage or retro. It works really effectively for some brands like Coke, for example, who has used the same mark for 150 years and basically sells nostalgia. But I dont think it has quite the same effect for our brand. I think some of what people are responding to with our script word mark is the vintage novelty of it.

There are actually quite a few schools who have script throwbacks right now because it's on trend. But my feeling is it will go back out of trend eventually like it's done before.

Basically, I think it's trendy not timeless.

Again, mostly just a feeling. Like I said, I love them but if I were advising the team on a look to commit to for the rest of basketball eternity, it probably wouldn't be the script.

The Fighting Illini jerseys on the other hand are more timeless, I think. And they're also more of a template that can be adapted over time. You can tweak the font if you want or change the stripes or whatever, but as long as you have Fighting on top and Illini on bottom it'll be an ownable and timeless look.

Maybe, but I think the script jerseys have basically looked great forever.

The White Sox have been using the grey script jerseys for as long as I've watched and they're so clean. The cursive Chicago bulls jersey is also their best jersey imo.

The flying Illini jerseys are cool throwbacks but having Fighting Illini on the front enclosing the numbers is simply too busy. The script jerseys are just perfection and you can always tweak minor things details to update them.

I would love to see it as their main jersey with an orange version than use the blue flying Illini throwbacks then just pick another alt or two to rotate through.
