The script alternates are great and all, but we're nearing the end of that trend (and literally every other program has a version of them).

These are NOT mutually exclusive. Those should be the home defaults (although touched up to be more like the slightly newer orange iterations - smaller, less blocky lettering that looks more refined), AND we should keep the white Script alternates.
Agreed. Ideally we would have a full, modernized set of Flying Illini unis (white, orange, blue) as our defaults and then white script alternate and orange 05 alternate.
The next trend will be 80s throwbacks, we're already ahead of it so let's lean in even more and be trendsetters.

These look great, but I would love to see the white FIGHTING ILLINI letters made a bit less thick like their orange counterparts!

You forgot University under the numbers of the first white and the blue jerseys.
Yeah, this was just a quick mockup to represent my dream jerseys. In reality the font and font size would be identical between the orange and white flying Illini style jerseys.

This plus a 04-05 orange throwback would be my call as well. I’d use “Illinois” in the same “Fighting Illini” font on the navy uniforms as you’ve alluded to here.
Essentially it is just keeping the orange Flyin' Illini and white script jerseys, and then bringing back these other two jerseys:

While I have rather firmly moved into the camp that prefers these from now on...
HOME: White Flyin' Illini
AWAY: Orange Flyin' Illini
ALTERNATE: Navy Flyin' Illini (though I find your Deon Thomas Era ones to be a suitable alternative)
THROWBACK #1: White Script
THROWBACK #2: Orange 2005
... I still cannot help but wonder just how sharp an orange or navy version of the Script throwbacks would look ... I think both would be awesome.
Maybe someone much more skilled than I could use this Jersey and outline the Blue in White like the hoodie!

So here is my unprofessional attempt at an Orange Script Jersey. I feel like there needs to be white around the arms and neck too...but you can get the idea of what it could look like!

I'm positive that if there is a 2004-05 throwback, it will be in a modern fit and with some touch-ups to make it look a bit more modern. I don't think we'll see the billowing shorts that Deron and Dee wore all season.
