Illini Basketball Uniforms

#226
A recasting of our fun 9-game winning streak by uniform...

White Script vs. Missouri (St. Louis, MO)
White 1LL1NO1S vs. Southern
Orange Script at Penn State (Philadelphia, PA)
White Script vs. Rutgers
Navy Flyin' Illini at #19 Iowa
Orange Flyin' Illini at Northwestern
White 1LL1NO1S vs. Minnesota
White Script vs. Maryland
Orange Script at #4 Purdue

I would be surprised if we didn't see the Navy Flyin' Illini at Nebraska given it's been a while and the solid color contrast with their red, but maybe the guys are feelin' riding with the Orange Script after the Purdue win. I really hope we don't slide back into 1LL1NO1S territory (white or orange) for the Washington home game, lmao ... just let them die!! It would be cool to see the Orange Flyin' Illini get some more love for the Washington game, given the Huskies will have purple away uniforms.
Update:

White Script vs. Missouri (St. Louis, MO)
White 1LL1NO1S vs. Southern
Orange Script at Penn State (Philadelphia, PA)
White Script vs. Rutgers
Navy Flyin' Illini at #19 Iowa
Orange Flyin' Illini at Northwestern
White 1LL1NO1S vs. Minnesota
White Script vs. Maryland
Orange Script at #4 Purdue
Orange Flyin' Illini vs. Northwestern

If you take out a very expected win vs. Southern, we have used 3 White Script, 2 Orange Flyin' Illini, 2 Orange Script, 1 Navy Flyin' Illini and 1 White 1LL1NO1S. We've really spread the wealth! I would bet that Navy Flyin' Illini joins the "2 club" on Sunday, as it just seems too obvious to sport it. However, we did wear Orange Script when playing orange Tennessee and Navy Flyin' Illini when playing navy UConn, so who knows? :ROFLMAO:

P.S. If we were to wear Navy Flyin' Illini on Sunday, I think that is the archetypal color distribution you should see for Illini Basketball. We should never be wearing one of our three colors THAT much more than the other. Navy will necessarily be worn the least if we ever wear orange on the road (as we should!), but white and orange should be relatively equal, IMO. I love that we would be using a rough split like this assuming navy on Sunday:

Home: 4 White, 1 Orange
Away: 3 Orange, 2 Navy

Last year's squad used orange as an away color, white as a home color and navy as a no-go. Granted, we didn't have a cool navy uniform until this year, but in general I think orange should be a true alternate for us. Wear white at home vs. red/orange teams, navy on the road vs. red/orange teams and mix in orange as we please when it works!

They are selling these on NIL, are we bringing back this era throwback?

Reminds me of Demetri McCamey

I love when stuff like this gets posted, but let's of course throw out the obligatory note that beating cupcakes at home in our White 1LL1NO1S rags while we lose to a top 5 UConn team in their backyard in our Navy Flyin' Illini set shouldn't really count in favor of the former and against the latter! Rephrased another way, here are our Quad 1 and Quad 2 games by uniform.

White Script
Q1A - L 80-83 vs. #10 Nebraska
Q1A - L 86-90 vs. #23 Alabama (Chicago, IL)
Q1 - W 81-77 vs. #21 Texas Tech
Q2 - W 91-48 vs. #68 Missouri (St. Louis, MO)

Navy Flyin' Illini
Q1A - L 61-74 vs. #6 UConn (New York, NY)
Q1A - W 78-69 at #10 Nebraska
Q1A - W 75-69 at #19 Iowa
Q1 - W 88-80 at #41 Ohio State

Orange Script
Q1A - W 88-82 at #8 Purdue
Q1A - W 75-62 vs. #20 Tennessee (Nashville, TN)
Q2 - W 73-65 at #129 Penn State (Philadelphia, PA)

Orange Flyin' Illini
Q2 - W 75-66 vs. #49 Washington
Q2 - W 79-68 at #78 Northwestern

White 1LL1NO1S
W 77-67 vs. #72 Minnesota

So we have got some good wins in all of the top three throwbacks, we are 2-0 vs. Quad 2 teams in the Orange Flyin' Illini and we are 1-0 in the White 1LL1NO1S uniforms. Given the difficulty of the opponents, the locations of the games and when each result occurred ... you couldn't go wrong declaring either Navy Flyin' Illini or Orange Script as our "luckiest" uniform, though you probably have to give the nod to the Orange Script given the Purdue win and that we haven't lost in that one yet. My money is on us wearing one of those two on Saturday at MSU, so maybe that can be the tie breaker when we win.

I was pretty sure we'd see Orange Script on Saturday (and that would probably still be my bet), but there has been an interesting pattern for road games since we got the two new jerseys.

Navy Flyin' Illini vs. UConn at MSG
Orange Script vs. Tennessee in Nashville
Navy Flyin' Illini at Ohio State
Orange Script at Penn State
Navy Flyin' Illini at Iowa
Orange Flyin' Illini at Northwestern
Orange Script at Purdue
Navy Flyin' Illini at Nebraska

Other than the brief interjection for the revival of the Orange Flyin' Illini uniforms in Evanston, we have consistently alternated between Navy Flyin' Illini and Orange Script. Looking at the pattern starting with PSU, Orange Flyin' Illini would be next up in the rotation! However, my money is still on Orange Script given we just wore Orange Flyin' Illini twice at home. I would be surprised if we wore navy.

Can this convince whatever sicko holdout there still is in the DIA that the 1LL1NO1S uniforms must be allowed to die already?!
I swear, every time I see them a new element jumps to the top of the list for what is worst about them. Last night it was the stripe on the side angling backwards towards the nameplate.

Can some insider confirm if the 1LL1NO1S uniforms are maybe more comfortable? I never really thought of that (and it would definitely surprise me, I assume they'd make all of the uniforms with equally comfortable materials...), but it could be one explanation of why whoever gets to decide the uniforms throws those ones a bone every once in a while and why last year's team actually seemed to prefer those ones.

I'm sorry, but I simply cannot bring myself to believe choosing to wear the 1LL1NO1S uniforms is anything related to wanting to look good, haha. I'd believe they're more comfortable, I would believe there is some contractual requirement with Nike, I would believe someone high up in the DIA is mentally deranged and attached to them, etc. But not that any group of people just thinks they look better.

Not promoting anything, just thought this was a great uniform photo. It’s obviously not against Indiana as the headline reads, so that may be a typo? I’m sure the wealth of historical knowledge on this site could provide some insight on these ‘sans-Fighting’ Illini beauties.

P. S. Bonus points for the matching socks!

Home games against non-red teams should always be Orange. And these are the best Orange ones (not that new script Illini ones are bad), so 100% on board.
I was going to say that I wasn't going to go quite as far as you, but I definitely want us to wear orange at home a lot more like we did in the ~2005 era. However, when I laid out what I would prefer for home games vs. Big Ten teams if I were playing a videogame and got to choose both team's uniforms, it literally agreed with your take 100%, lol.

Indiana in Red / Illini in White
Iowa in Yellow / Illini in Orange (this combo is just nostalgic for me seeing this matchup in these colors a lot as a kid!)
Maryland in Red / Illini in White
Michigan in Navy / Illini in Orange
Michigan State in Green / Illini in Orange
Minnesota in Maroon / Illini in White
Nebraska in Red / Illini in White
Northwestern in Purple / Illini in Orange
Ohio State in Red / Illini in White
Oregon in Green / Illini in Orange
Penn State in Navy / Illini in Orange
Purdue in Black / Illini in Orange
Rutgers in Red / Illini in White
UCLA in Blue / Illini in Orange
USC in Red / Illini in White
Washington in Purple / Illini in Orange (this looked great this year!)
Wisconsin in Red / Illini in White

So yeah, even if we ONLY wore white at home vs. red Big Ten teams, that would still be vs. 8 out of the 17 other teams in the conference... When you look at it that way, there really is no reason we should be wearing white so often vs. teams like Iowa, Michigan, Purdue, etc.

Given vibes and personal preferences here, I think we need to rock these down the stretch.

Orange Script vs. Oregon ... get its good juju back with a bounce-back win.
Navy Flyin' Illini at Maryland ... the best for a color contrast, mostly.
Orange Script in BTT Quarterfinals Game ... assuming it works with the color combos. White Script at the UC brings back bad 'Bama game memories. Wearing orange at the UC just feels right.
Navy Flyin' Illini for all remaining BTT games, especially if we face Michigan ... Channel that 1989 energy when we wore navy during the game we smoked them in Ann Arbor.

Assuming it works with colors/seeds, this would be my go-to NCAA Tournament lineup.

White Script in First Round
Orange Flyin' Illini in Second Round
Orange Script in Sweet Sixteen
Navy Flyin' Illini the rest of the way

EDIT: This obviously assumes no epic surprises like White Flyin' Illini, Navy Script or (better yet) a 2005 Throwback to channel some postseason good vibes!
