Man, it feels like those guys have been around for 15 years. Will be weird not to see any of them. Edey's gone, too. And Alonzo Verge (I think). And Dickinson, maybe? Big 10 is going to look totally different next year.
Ummm Ivey, EJ, Stefanovic, Harper Jr, Bohannon and Davidson. Lol

Bohannon is the only one of these I won't miss. I was always surprised when I saw Iowa in BTT or playing other teams and how good Bohannon looked, because I honestly don't remember him doing anything against Illinois other than whining. And losing. And for that, I probably should thank Trent.

As I suspected, we will have to see Bohannon one last time on Thursday night... along with Davison

Pretty interesting twitter thread. This year every final 4 team is ranked very low in bench minutes. This guy looked at MSU's bench minutes and found over the past several seasons, their 2 seasons with lowest bench minutes made the final 4.

Just a reminder for all you posters who will be saying we will be 10+ deep next year.

Yup. Down the stretch, almost all coaches go w/ their 6 or 7 top guys.

It’s easy to say when you have guys like Banchero and AJ Grifffin. The drop off from those NBA lottery picks to bench players is much more significant than a 50-100 player with other 50-100 players. Blue bloods have that luxury.

I think a system with 9-10 deep can work if you have the right roster built and guys are about the same talent level.

Ayo and Kofi played so much because they were by far our best players (~Top 35).

It's quite simple. The guys who play the most minutes generally develop a chemistry with one another which makes that most common lineup better. Tougher to establish that when you have constant rotations. Case in point was Illinois this year's with our constant injuries/illnesses. We could barely ever keep our best lineup on the floor together at full strength.

Yes it probably can but its extremely rare for a team to have 9 or 10 guys that are all around the same level. That's why this never happens in real life.
You really see this at almost every level. I watch a lot of high school basketball both boys and girls and a vast majority of coaches really shorten their benches the bigger the games become. They just don't seem to trust their 7th, 8th, 9th etc when season is on the line. They are going to live and die with their top 5-6 kids.

Two things come to mind when seeing this: 1) very similar phenomenon to the NBA, where teams typically value having 2-3 top-level stars over a really deep team. 2) still need to find that happy medium where you have the talent to fill in gaps created due to injury, like what Houston was able to do this year. Very hard to do I would imagine but the best teams will have capable guys able to step up and fill 90% of the shoes of a primary option that is out injured (like with Sasser). We'll get a good idea of how much this lack of bench minutes can bite you with Nova as they try to make do without Justin Moore on the fly.
