The NBA is more complex than ever, sincerely sit down and watch a team like the Warriors, Kings, or the Bucks on defense and I would be shocked if you don't find that to be true. The amount of off-ball movement and complex actions is crazy. Most people with this lazy take point to "poor defense" and players just being able to run to the rim. The reason those lanes are so open now is because of how ridiculously good of a shooter the average NBA player is today, allowing for spacing that opens up huge lanes for athletic demigods to attack the rim (plus some gracious refereeing).
Not to mention that the NBA has legislated out any defense that could possibly slow them down.

Brandon was finally getting some playing time.

Still if he wants to be a starter he should transfer to someplace like Ivy league and become a legend!

I guess we are looking in portal for backup center now. I would like a Euro-5 that can spread the floor but still have the size to block shots in the lane.

Good luck Brandon.
After the Minnesota game, I thought he was going to get at least 5 to 10 minutes a game going forward. Sadly, did not happen.

"Complex" isn't the word I would use.

It's very optimized to a specific way of playing that everyone is kind of forced into because changing anything would disadvantage you. Everyone does more or less the same things.

The skill and length level is insane relative to college. The intensity level is lower owing to the longer game with more possessions and the 82 game grind.

It was more fun to watch 10 years ago, IMO. Then and now I preferred college all things considered just because of the greater variety of players and playing styles, but college fans do often say very dumb things about what is a ruthlessly excellent level of basketball in which anyone who isn't world class is gone very quickly.

Yeah, his late-season slump is making a lot of people forget he was unquestionably our best player in a whole lot of games this season.
I agree, but I do think it's more complicated than that. My novice perception was that we had this dynamic where if Mayer thrived, everyone else just felt a bit off/out of place, and vice versa. He was the quintessential "scorer" who could carry you or kind of suck the wind out of his teammates/the offense if it wasn't working out. We have all been on teams with guys like that, regardless of sport.

Illinois Wesleyan has a great golf program, too. National champs a couple of years ago. Plus a beautiful basketball building and Sikma.

Definitely true, but part of me wonders what kind of player development and team dynamics we might have seen later if we hadn't been so reliant on him earlier on; granted that could have included a team that doesn't make the NCAAs at all...

Warren Carter is the first name that springs to mind of someone who was a non-contributor for three years then suddenly a key guy.
I always wondered why Carter didn’t play the year before. Felt that team really could’ve used his offense. Never really knew if he developed his game after that year, or BW just decided not to play him the year before??

He played some off the bench, he just wasn't very good. Took a big leap as a senior.

It was the hair, clearly.

I'm going to have Brad yell directly at my cancer!

(I do not have cancer.)

He yells so much that a random assistant professor at the University of New Brunswick got so offended that he submitted a request to censure BU for his conduct...
Anyone want to post the tweet?

I'm no insider, but I'd be surprised to see RJ in the portal after how Underwood and the staff stood by him during his slump and kept giving him opportunities while continuing to encourage him to shoot it.
