It's kinda surreal seeing his younger pictures because it doesn't feel like it's been too long since I played with him and his dad at the Y when he was in middle school. You could tell he was going to be a good player holding his own against grown men (granted just pickupball) but I didn't know just how good.

That's three. I'll always still say that Illinois was the opening salvo for the ultimate downfall of the NCAA as a legitimate governing organization with the Deon Thomas situation. So if nothing else, Illinois can point out that it has been the catalyst for showing what a joke the NCAA really is.
EDIT - I didn't even think about instant replay. I'd say that the Ohio State overtime game in 2000 (when Walter Young caught the pass in the end zone and it was incorrectly ruled incomplete, depriving Illinois of a second OT against OSU) was really the game that started the move toward instant replay in college football.
That’s pretty awesome! “Life” gets in the way most of the time but it really is special to see a childhood dream come true.

Illini fans have a really bad habit of treating ourselves as uniquely unlucky and never looking at the bright side (this was SIGNIFICANTLY less of a problem when I was a kid pre-Groce years). We should be thinking how lucky we were that TSJ got to play again this season all things considered BEFORE such a rule existed.
For all of the unlucky things that have happened to this program, there are plenty of "lucky" things, as well. Underwood leaving a program like Oklahoma State for us while we were in the depths of the cellar, Ayo committing while we were still nothing as far as prestige, extra COVID years literally giving us a Big Ten championship in 2022, actually just in general the SUPER precarious way we beat Iowa to win that championship in 2022, Domask absolutely blowing up for us this year, etc.

Guilty as charged. I will say this is the first year in, well, a loooonnnggg time I was able to shed that sinking feeling - and that didn't happen until our run to close out the regular season.

I'm (almost!!) as guilty of it as anyone else, but I got to witness the Iowa beatdown in Carver-Hawkeye Arena in front of a ton of other Illini fans, and that REALLY helped me get a bit of my swagger back like the old glory days of 2001-2006! I started to have shreds of "Oh, here we go again" when we had large deficits in the BTT, but when I got to see our team crowned champions, I was pretty amped. However, I will admit that it wasn't until we absolutely DOMINATED Duquesne that I really restored my true confidence and pride in this program to 2001-2006 levels. Getting the Sweet Sixteen monkey off of our backs had us truly BACK in my mind. Beating Iowa State was icing on the cake, and getting blown out by UConn did nothing to dampen things for me!
Minor correction. The 1984 game at Rupp lead to a rule that teams could no longer play regional games on their home court. LSU hosted first and second round games in 1986 and Syracuse did the same in 1987. Both teams ended up in the final four in those respective years. The no-home-court-play-at-all rule went into effect in 1989.
I do wonder, are we really this snake bitten? Are we really the universe's sacrificial lamb used to shine a light on college basketball's loopholes?
Or are we just such a large, passionate, vocal, and (mostly) intelligent fanbase that when we see a basketball injustice, we make it impossible for the NCAA to ignore us whereas lesser fanbases might just shrug and say "Them's the rules."

My daughter a current freshman at the beloved ran into him and TJ at the airport. Knowing that I am a rabid Illinois fan and about to turn 50, she decided to put together an early birthday present for me, in that she asked them if they would wish me a happy birthday. Both gladly did! EDG’s
And BOTH of them still proudly representing the Orange and Blue while at an airport about to travel. Really love these two portal transfers!
Just a reminder that there is no reason why any of the rest of us shouldn't wear the orange and blue and support the brand while traveling.
