Question for the stats gurus here.. How many P5 jump balls did we win? I didn't get to see a number of the games (thanks Peacock!) but my unscientific tally was zero. I like Tommy, but if his feet are glued to the floor, why not start Z for the jump and until the 1st whistle?

Could help with those slow starts...
I totally agree. Even if it was for one minute and then put Tommy in.

For next year so far:

vs. UConn in Chicago
vs. Missouri in St. Louis
@ Texas Tech

Tennessee??????
I’d imagine we’ll see a Champaign game against a higher profile opponent which would be returned as a true road game in 27-28.

Some teams I’d be interested for this are Vanderbilt, BYU, Virginia, Iowa State (would be a father-son rivalry game with my son going there next fall). Basically a Quad 1 game against a team that wouldn’t be a great draw in Chicago.

You need to either watch more games or watch them more closely.

We won jump balls against:

Alabama
Ohio St.
Mizzou
Penn St.
Northwestern (both games)
Minnesota
Purdue
Washington
Nebraska (away game)
UCLA
Michigan
Maryland (away game)

So what, you'd have Z in for the tip and burn a timeout to make a sub? You don't always get an opportunity to make a sub in the first minute. So either you burn a timeout or go without your optimal lineup for however long it takes. Does increased odds of winning the tip make enough of a difference in the game to justify that?

Yes, all true. But the tone of the post harshes the mellow that prevails here. Right? /sarc

Both of Josh's eyes popped out of his head when he saw how much NIL the men's bball program was getting next year

Thank you, I really did want the real data. You exposed my bias for recent events. We went 0 for the tourneys (Big and NCAA)?

Tennessee and UConn should be in Chicago this upcoming season.

Missouri neutral site.

At Texas Tech.

I wouldn’t keeping Alabama on the schedule. Like with Tennessee, I feel like our trajectory is going to take us above both programs and like those matchups on a national stage.
I’d be interested in traveling to see us play at Arizona and/or Florida. Good benchmark games for sure. But I’d also be curious to see us do a couple friendly exhibition games against a couple of Balkan league teams. I’d travel for those too.

I don’t see us playing twice in Chicago unless the second game is one of those made for TV events (and I won’t be surprised at all if Illinois plays in one of those events). The students and local fans should also get at least one good non-conference game at SFC each season.

The Tennessee neutral site agreement skips next year. Guessing we knew we had UConn in 2026 in Chicago, so Tennessee bumps to 2027.

"Tennessee will then travel to Chicago during the 2027-28 nonconference season to play Illinois at the United Center."

Double detached retinas? That seems odd. Hope Josh has a speedy and uncomplicated recovery.
A friend of mine had it a few years back. Right about the same age.

Mirk? I’m not sure he can even dunk a basketball.

Jump ball win % by player is a trackable stat on Kenpom if anyone is paying for the premium and wants to look it up.

Texas Tech has a chance to be our first ranked true road non-con game since Tennessee 12/9/2023. Our last before that was 12/8/2020 @Duke.

Suffice to say these matchups are pretty rare for us.

Edit: Shoot, looking back this applies to true road non con games altogether, except add Marquette back in 2021. We just dont play non conference road games anymore.

Yeah, I was hoping someone with premium would have posted it, or that I could find it somewhere else online, but this was the best I was able to find. Confirms that as of February 11, Tomi was not in the top 10 or bottom 10 of this stat, meaning he was winning the tip at least 30% of the time.

How important is the opening jump ball since the losing team gets the first held ball? I would think it is much more important at the start of an overtime when using Z might be of more value.

agree - Sub out Z at first dead ball. It is not like Z is a walkon and need to burn a timeout. 1 time in one of the OT losses, Z started got the tip and then came out at the deadball

I wouldn't be surprised if BU adds another two-year type deal with at least one more top or up and coming program.
