So winning the tip didn't lead to us winning the game?

Not so sure about them. I want more Elite. We have Texas Tech, Missouri and UConn at this point.

No more Quad 4 games and I'll take Florida or Arizona.

Five or more Quad 4 games, then let's go (Florida or Arizona) and (Houston or Vandy).
I know what you mean. love our high class problems these days. Lol.
Here we are saying to hell with this fallen, broken, wounded giant…there’s not much of a challenge for us there.

I love it SO much.

Based on search results, the phrase "Jimmy always gets the tip!" is a phrase used by a user's wife on the Illinois Loyalty forum when discussing University of Illinois basketball [1].
It appears to be a personal family phrase used in reference to tip-offs at basketball games [1].
  • Source: Illinois Loyalty - "Illini Basketball | Page 4 - Illinois Loyalty" [1].
  • Context: Used in a post regarding college basketball tip-offs (as of April 2026) [1].
I wanted to find out if this phrase was from a movie or something--and here's what I found out. For some reason I found this very entertaining!

Does he tip 15% or 20%? Is that the context for Jimmy?

I just read this post to my wife. We are both very amused! 😂

Not exactly Illinois related, but one thing that’s completely fascinated me is how much raw scoring (ppg) went up this year compared to years past.

This year there were 13 teams who averaged over 86 points per game:

From 2021 to 2025, there were only 10 teams to crack 86ppg in that entire five year span.

Illinois is 28th at 83.2ppg, but it has zero meaning on how efficient you are. Points per possession is the ultimate metric.

It’s just crazy how many teams are scoring so much.

I guess I should be more humbled. However, this is the goal for this program. We need to start thinking this way--keep the momentum going.

Let's stay Elite by recruiting hardworking, tough Elite players, by playing against Elite competition and by developing Elite game plans to defeat said Elite programs. At this point, UNC is not on the radar. And if the Illini were to see them in R2 this year, they would have pummeled them soundly.

Tennessee and UConn should be in Chicago this upcoming season.

Missouri neutral site.

At Texas Tech.

I wouldn’t keeping Alabama on the schedule. Like with Tennessee, I feel like our trajectory is going to take us above both programs and like those matchups on a national stage.
Tennessee just went to the Elite 8 and has been a perennial top 25 team under Barnes. Alabama is coming off a Sweet 16 and is a top 10 program in the nation under Oats.

Why would you not want to either of those programs? We just finally got over the hump and beat Tennessee this year and haven't beaten Alabama yet. They are 2 of the 3 best programs in the SEC and play wildly different styles(slow and physical vs high tempo) that do a great job or preparing you for the season.

Now maybe you want to get away from Tennessee when Barnes is done but I don't see any issue scheduling Barnes, Oats, Hurley, and McCasland. You could make an argument all 4 are among the top 10 active coaches and Oats, Hurley, and McCasland are probably in the top 5.

I agree with you. I meant to say “I wouldn’t mind keeping…”

I couldn’t edit it by the time I realized the typo. I want to play the best every year and start beating those teams every year.

Tennessee is set for 27-28, not this coming season.
