No, losing Tilmon & replacing with no one is huge. Even if he isn't a bang in his first year, the only way to get to the second year is after the first. Tilmon will help next year, he will help even more the following year. There is no scenario where losing Tilmon is a good thing.

You're most likely correct. But there's a chance he doesn't fit well. Freshman bigs are hard to count on, even very talented ones. We're not talking about some surefire NBA guy. He's a very good prospect but he's not stepping in and dominating. Look at post guys ranked around the top 30 for previous years. Hardly 1 and done level stats.
And obviously losing Tilmon would not be a good thing.
No chance he does a complete new set of assistants. Also no chance Bowen comes to UI.
Not sure why everyone is adamant Evans will be on the staff. Just because he is listed as the OSU recruiting coordinator? He has been on Underwood's staff for all of 1 yr. Last time they were together they were both assistants under Frank Martin. Maybe they got along better as colleagues than as boss-subordinate. Who knows. The only thing known is Underwood has had Boyton his entire HC career and that he has changed the other assistants to suit the job.
I think it's essentially guaranteed that at least one of Evans and Boynton come with Underwood. Most likely scenario is that both come, Walker stays, and the little bit of Dennis Gates smoke ends up meaning nothing.
The twitter follows are interesting, though, so a scenario where Gates comes aboard and either Walker leaves or one of the OKST guys is sent packing could make sense. I'd like to see Gates, Walker, and Boynton/Evans, but I understand loyalty to your staff and expect Underwood to take care of his guys.

That OSU staff took a bunch of players accustomed to Travis Ford Garbageball and turned them into the #1 offense in the country inside of a year.
Underwood isn't the only guy that proved himself on that staff.
We want teachers that really intuitively understand how the pieces fit together in this system. It's not brain surgery, and smart, good coaches from anywhere can pick it up eventually, but we want this install to be great NOW.
I was just going to post wondering about exactly this.
Just because Whit didn't give Groce a lot of money for assistants (Groce didn't want to make changes and his teams weren't winning) doesn't mean Whit won't do so for Underwood. Why pay top quartile for a Big10 coach and then not pony up for assistants? I'm intrigued they could bring in a 3rd assistant that may not be on the radar. And other than to keep current recruits happy they don't need to be in a huge hurry. The tourney is still going on.

That's what someone asked Tupper. Gotta imagine that is for all three right. So 283k per.... That's about what Gates already makes so doubt he would move.

For a top assistant, 236K sounds way low to me.
I'd be quite happy with 236, but why not grab a great assistant when he only makes like 8% of your new coach. Sounds like Gates is worth more than 8% to me. That's less than sales tax on 3M for goodness sake!
