Josh Whitman talks Illini Pride

I love the way he's able to speak so eloquently about the meaning of an 0-11 football team in the culture of a college campus.

That's something a soulless corporate suit of an AD (who have their other advantages) would never be able to do because they haven't lived it the way Whitman has.

It's very refreshing to hear our leadership not try to whitewash our struggles.

Anyone see this? This computer model gives us a 10.9% chance to win the West. Might not seem like much but it gives us the best chance, with Wisconsin in 2nd at 10.6%.

1 in 10 chance to win the division while being 1 of 7 teams

That percentage is to win the whole conference, not just the West, which makes it even more insane.

"It’s also very likely that whoever wins the conference will come out of the East division, which has a 70.9% chance to produce the Big Ten’s champion. No team from the West division has even an 11% chance to win the conference, with Illinois (10.9%) and Wisconsin (10.6%) leading the way there."

Totally plausible, if not likely. Yep, that's the ticket. lol

After reading that I really think they interpreted their data incorrectly and got their abbreviations mixed up in their simulation. Replace Illinois with Iowa in there.

Wow, that's a really embarrassing typo. I think we're going to surprise some people, but that almost certainly has to be Iowa.

Any idea when we are going to get more clarity on which games will be on which networks? I only see networks on the schedule through the UNC game... Unless ESPN news broadcasts games...

Yes, ESPNews will broadcast the Week 3 Western Michigan game. Week 1 & 2 will be on BTN along with another B1G game at the very same time so check your cable rollover channels or watch online BTN2Go if necessary.

The rest of TV and/or game times will be announced approx 12 days prior to the game. In November sometimes they wait 6 days prior to game day to announce the time/tv.

Illinois is at 10.9%, Wisconsin at 10.6%. What did they have Iowa at 10% or 1%? Or are you guys just full of it and don't know? Or quibbling that Iowa really has 1 in 100 more chances than Illinois to win the Big Ten?

Big Ten West seems pretty wide open. The only team that would surprise me as division champ would be Purdue. Schedule will play a role. Minnesota has a favorable schedule in that they don't play Michigan, Michigan State or Ohio State, whereas Wisconsin plays all three. Solid first string, a lot of seniors, NFL caliber coaching... #WeWillWin!

They don't list Iowa. Go read the article.

I did read it. I was giving you the benefit of the doubt that you might have seen all of the numbers in another article. Thanks for answering my questions, though.

I'm using logic and reading comprehension to deduce that where they have Illinois they mean Iowa.

You deduced that they used abbreviations to keep track of all FBS teams (or was it just Illinois and Iowa?) during their simulations and mixed up Illinois and Iowa rather than the possibility that their simulations had Illinois with 5 in 1000 more chances to win the Big Ten than Iowa. As mentioned before, I deduced something else.

No there's also that list of rankings in the beginning.

It has to be Iowa. It doesn't say so, but it has to be.

Another context clue is how strangely hostile computerized projections have been for this Illinois team generally, which doesn't entirely make sense to me.

They have Illinois as the 20th team in the country, do you believe that makes sense?

They must have mixed MSU and MD, too. Look, we don't know the algorithms used, so comparing their simulations to computer rankings, which are admittedly not accurate until later in year, seems pointless. It might not be accurate, but I doubt they mixed up four Big Ten teams.

I'm going to predict we end up 6-6 with the schedule looking something like this:

Murray State - W
North Carolina - L
Western Michigan - W
Nebraska - L
Purdue - W
Rutgers - W
Michigan - L
Minnesota - W
Michigan State - L
Wisconsin - L
Iowa - W
Northwestern - L

I think the Western Michigan, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Northwestern games will all be close, so I went with home field advantage as the deciding factor. I think we'll end up 2-3 in those games, but I'm tempted to say we'll go 3-2 because Northwestern doesn't have that much of an advantage and it'd be nice to spoil their season again...

I think the schedule might work out in the illini's favor in a couple of matchups. Take the Michigan game for example, they play the illini before the huge game against Sparty, they could be over looking Illinois. Who does Wisky have that scares this team; Corey Clemons. I know it's week 1 but Sparty didn't look so hot last night. I think that 8-9 wins is a strong possibility. IMO there is no reason why the Illini can't start 6-0.
