Glad to hear the freshmen talent level isn't all hype.Need to land stud qb soon. Lovie did well with the bears with average qb but we are not near average at that position.

Who knows? Maybe we'll pull off an upset or two. The thing I try to remind myself of is that in the BIG, our freshmen are lining up against guys who are, for the most part, equally sized, equally fast, and more experienced.

Well then in this scenario, wouldn't we be 15-0? Why sell ourselves short at 12-0?
:D:D

The article didn't address the B1G championship game, which, would be a more thorough pounding of tOSU. Followed by a surprising 4 seed in the bowl championship series, despite being the only undefeated team in the country, to play Alabama in the semis. After that victory, we will beat USC, payback for the Rose Bowl! Amazingly, we will be down for much of the game, when Jeff George Jr throws a pass off of the fingertips of a USC safety, rebound caught by Dudek, who runs in for the winning score!

I've read that Bennett Williams is going to be a starting safety.. didn't two freshman start at safety last year and the staff was pleased with them? Which one is getting bumped out of the starting spot and can they play another position in the D?

According to Robert from IlliniBoard, it is Stanley Green who is getting bumped. Patrick Nelson and Bennett Williams are starting in practice at the moment. Stanley played well last year, so it must be that Bennett is simply playing at an even higher level. Encouraging in my opinion as long as Stanley does not get discouraged.

Illinois football posts clip from BTN on Crouch as a potential sneaky good QB on the rise this year.

He's got my vote. Good to see another #7 behind the line reading, running or passing. Lets hope the O line can mature enough to keep him alive and give him some time. I suspect its going to be alot of quick hits/passes early given the O lines inexperience.

"The Juice is Loose" will now become "The Chayce is On!" (lets hope in a good way)

Keep in mind that Green is suspended for the first half of the game against Ball St. because he was ejected from last year's game against Northwestern. This may be why Williams is getting first string reps over Green.

Great point. Regardless of who is the starter, think we can all agree that ongoing stiff competition really augers well for the team & the players.

I hate to be a buzzkill, but that should have been a pick. Sure, though, I'm glad that we have got receivers with hands again.

Well I have watched it 10 times and still see no way it should of been picked, it was thrown in a very nice place and a very good one handed catch while using the other to hold off the defender. I am guessing your comment was more anti JGJ then anything

I really don't see that. It looks to me like the ball was thrown slightly behind the receiver, who had to turn to catch it. And did. Actually, if it had been thrown in the "right" spot, it probably would have been a pick. But the defender was diving for the ball, and nowhere near getting his hands close to it.

At least that's what I can see from the video. Do you have any other views of that play that might change my mind, because this view doesn't show pick?

Come on everyone.

It's man to man coverage which means when the defender turns it's back to the QB to run with the WR, the QB can throw what's called the "back shoulder throw"

Yes the ball is a little low but Smith made a great adjustment to make a play.

When the QB sees its man to man the defender will not know the ball has been thrown until the WR turns back to make a play on the ball. The reaction window for the defender to be running with WR and be able to somehow turn completely around to make a play on the ball when the WR turns is very very difficult.

You see this play all the time (think packers and Mr. Rodgers do it the best) also you seen it near the goalie in college and NFL.

The fact the George Jr has the accuracy/timing/ and then confidence to throw this AND and freshman WR to be able to adapt to make a play on the ball at the last second is a Phenomenal play by all.

I don't see the confusion by some of you that think this was a "lucky play" or a badly thrown ball.

Is Larry Boyd the LT in that video? Because even though I knew he was a massive person already, it looks like a giant compared to the DE.

Robert's updated depth chart. The biggest intrigue is who starts game 1 on both lines. I'm cheering for a Boyd-Megginson-Kramer-Allegretti-DiLauro offensive line; on the defensive line I like the lineup they have listed but definitely want to see Carney, Roundtree, and Green get significant tick in the rotation. The secondary is also interesting: who is the starter once Stanley Green is off suspension, him or Bennett? Both will play.

This team is at least slightly better than most fans' perceptions right now, IMO.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I'm hyped to see Phillips as the starting SLB. I think he will be the guy who finally makes tackles hard enough to push the ball carrier backward.

I saw this.

I would like to see Boyd(OT) and Allegretti (OG) play the Strongside and DiLauro and Megs on the quick side. DiLauro moves WAY better then Boyd.

DL I would like to see Adasanya, Milan, Oliver, Crawford as the starters with Carney, Jackson, Tito, Roundtree as the backups. K. Green in the mix as well.
