Illini Football 2017

Robert's updated depth chart. The biggest intrigue is who starts game 1 on both lines. I'm cheering for a Boyd-Megginson-Kramer-Allegretti-DiLauro offensive line; on the defensive line I like the lineup they have listed but definitely want to see Carney, Roundtree, and Green get significant tick in the rotation. The secondary is also interesting: who is the starter once Stanley Green is off suspension, him or Bennett? Both will play.

This team is at least slightly better than most fans' perceptions right now, IMO.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I'm hyped to see Phillips as the starting SLB. I think he will be the guy who finally makes tackles hard enough to push the ball carrier backward.

May the best man win, but I would love to see Boyd and Lowe on the same side sometime. It probably won't happen this year with Lowe's injury, but I think it will be fun to watch when it happens.

Is Larry Boyd the LT in that video? Because even though I knew he was a massive person already, it looks like a giant compared to the DE.
Well he is going up against a redshirt freshman linebacker turned DE in abercrombie who is listed at 6'1" 225. He is still huge, especially for a true freshman!

I really don't see that. It looks to me like the ball was thrown slightly behind the receiver, who had to turn to catch it. And did. Actually, if it had been thrown in the "right" spot, it probably would have been a pick. But the defender was diving for the ball, and nowhere near getting his hands close to it.

At least that's what I can see from the video. Do you have any other views of that play that might change my mind, because this view doesn't show pick?
You're probably right. Because the camera focuses on the ball, I can't really tell what the defender was up to. Looked like he might have feasibly trying to make a play on it, but his momentum looks awkward, so it's hard to tell. Just a #hottake

Doesn't change the fact I'm excited about our receivers. :thumb:

With all the hype surrounding our WR corps, I'm wondering how many catches they'll actually be averaging per game. Based upon what I witnessed last year, Crouch has one of the oddest throwing motions I've seen in D-1 college football. I think we may be seeing an average of something like this in 2017:

12 completions /25 attempts --- for 155 yards per game

I expect more rushing yards than I do passing yards per game.

Why did you think this was worthy of sharing?

of the two remaining signal-callers—George seems to have the edge given he took more snaps last season (and ended with a 40.4 completion rate and five picks to set against four touchdowns) after Crouch missed the spring due to injury... The fact that all signs point to the son of famed overall No. 1 bust Jeff George being Illinois’s best hope

I stopped reading after that.

I thought this was a fun read. Lots of bulletin board material that, if things do go our way this season, this article will be thrown back at the author and told to rewrite it. I thought the comments were an entertaining read too. You can tell the author and commentors are not following the team as closely as those on this board.
I don't think "Bulletin board material" is a real thing.

My only take away from the article was that the writer was more interested in soliciting reaction than actually capturing anything with any kind of accuracy and he knows little or nothing about college or professional football.

That's the Deadspin way.

Ah, yes. When Maverick Morgan single handedly turned around Michigan's season last year.

Yes, Michigan was suddenly good at basketball because Maverick Morgan spoke. Sorry, I don't buy it.

That's most sports writing nowadays. Generating ad revenue and clicks is leaps and bounds ahead of actual reporting. The only articles worth reading are those run by homer websites and local news outlets.

I don't actually believe that either, it's more of a joke than anything else. It was just funny that Michigan started to click and seemed to turn their season around soon after he said that.

Yeah, and it's literally pinned up there on a figurative (not literal) bulletin board.

And they were 1-3 in the Big Ten after that loss, won 13 of their last 18 B1G games and made the dance.

Only Michigan knows for sure but the record bears it out and Beilein explained after their next win that it was used. Every good coach will use whatever rallying cry is available to light a fire.

If I may interject this riveting discussion of last year's Michigan basketball team in the Illinois football forum, is Jaylen Dunlap "arguably Illinois’s best player and NFL prospect?" If not, who is?

Jaylen Dunlap tasked to lead Illinois defense as a senior

I forgot that he was only rated two stars and that many thought he was offered to try to lure Laquon Treadwell.
