Peter's returning. Wow pretty interesting.
I wonder which QBs will be transferring out and Yes, QBs.Peter's returning. Wow pretty interesting.
Yeah, in theory more competition is always better. In practice there are delicate politics involved here that have broader implications up and down the roster.I wonder which QBs will be transferring out and Yes, QBs.
Everyone has to realize that IW also has to improve pretty significantly as a passer if he is going to be an effective B1G qb. Offenses can be adjusted to better fit personnel, but very few offense work with a qb completing 50% of passes.Yeah, in theory more competition is always better. Peters is actually a pretty effective runner, he is not Wes Lunt at all, so it's not EXACTLY a Lunt/Aaron Bailey situation, but it would still probably behoove Bielema and Co to make a decisive and relatively immediate decision on whether they are playing an offense IW is capable of quarterbacking or not.
Going to be real interesting since the room is filled with underclass running QBs, and BP. I hope the OC can adaptI wonder which QBs will be transferring out and Yes, QBs.
I don't really understand why they can't give 85 scholarship years to each program, essentially each player that uses a 5th year counts against that 85 scholarship year number and it all goes away once every 2020 scholarship player graduates. Seems like getting back down to 85 after 1 year defeats the purpose of this season being a freebie for the players.
100% true. Or, someone of a more sour disposition might say the NCAA lied about it being a freebie for the players.Seems like getting back down to 85 after 1 year defeats the purpose of this season being a freebie for the players.
Luckily we don't have anyone with that disposition on here.100% true. Or, someone of a more sour disposition might say the NCAA lied about it being a freebie for the players.
Likely open competition.Reading Werner’s tweets of quotes from Petersen’s Zoom presser, it sounds like Peters might have the edge at this point in QB battle. Obviously too early to know.
Oh I’m sure it will be. But Petersen said something like, I hope to help Peters have his best year like he did with Driskel. Sounds to me like he might have early advantage, though as you say it will be decided on the practice field.Likely open competition.
QB Brandon Peters made decision to return to Illinois before he met with Bielema but wanted to make sure new HC wanted him. He did.
"Nothing's guaranteed. I'm going to have to come in and compete. ...I know I'm going to have to compete and go win the job."
Brandon Peters said team was just "wore down" late in the season, drained and possibly unmotivated. Said Isaiah Williams took opportunity and ran with it.
"I got to go win a job."
Brandon Peters estimates this is the 6th or 7th offense he's learned.
Brandon Peters: "I wish KG wouldn't have left, but he's got to do what's best for him. ...But we got some great ones coming back" on the OL.
Brandon Peters said he hasn't yet chatted with new OC Tony Petersen but did some research on him and was impressed with his development of Chad Pennington and Byron Leftwich at Marshall.
Brandon Peters' grandmother interrupted his Zoom call. Adorable.
Brandon Peters: "I'm going to be a very educated guy by the time I'm done with college football."
Brandon Peters relays that Bret Bielema told him "the new system is going to be good for me." But he'll have to compete.
They're going to have to add through transfers, even if just for depth.Say what you want about Hansen, but now with Milo’s departure too Illini are pretty thin at LB — especially with most of those currently on roster ending season hurt.
Whatever those decisions ultimately are, imagine that Defense again being coached by Sleepy and Son. Over/Under on points allowed per game would be around 65.
Having the slightest chance of being a remotely competitive defense rests on the decisions of our DL seniors at this point. We're back to 2017 on that side of the ball if not.

There are better defensive schemes for less athletic/talented teams than Lovie's Cover 2. Let's hope BB employs one of those.

The defensive scheme for a team that's small, young, and thin on the defensive line in Power Five football is "coaches leaving the game in the middle of the 3rd quarter to beat the traffic to get on the road recruiting players who might give you a chance two years from now"There are better defensive schemes for less athletic/talented teams than Lovie's Cover 2.
