Looks like Shipton, Brevyn Jones, Kyron Cumby, Kevin Tyler, Phifer Griffin all leaving. Big OL class may get bigger? But, probably will need transfers who can play right away in 2022

OUCH. We needed DL Depth and looks like we're taking a hit right before Training Camp starts.
The OL transfers were expected I think, especially due to the seniors returning and recruiting a ton of OL in the next class.
With the scholarships opening up, wonder who Bielema and Staff will target in transfer portal for immediate depth and possible long term depth.
We still need some CBs in my opinion.

Under the No Worse Off principle, these defections don't hurt us very much. Those rides are more valuable than those players (Riggins and Tyler could have helped, but not this season and they have work to do). Frenchie has talent, but he's buried.
Dang not Frenchie.
But if we’re going traditional BB run heavy, I can see why WRs would want to look around.

Aren’t Illini fairly light on WRs? If Casey Washington is indeed back that might help I guess.
Now this excites me. We need athletes and, at a minimum, he is that.

Shouldn’t be surprising I guess with the deadline looming. Still it surprised me. I hope Taylor finds a spot. Kid is a good athlete.
I believe the scholarship limit of 25 includes transfers so I’m not sure how many we could pick up to replace them in this class.

I am not sure of scholarship numbers but hopefully these departures will allow for some depth to be added, there are still plenty of solid guys out there. If any of those guys who are transferring today were playing then we were in big trouble anyway

Something obviously changed from "no one asked to transfer" to six guys immediately deciding today to transfer. Transfers were bound to happen with the coaching change so it's not a surprise. Not that the timing is poor but it's interesting that this week triggered all of these decisions from the players. Riggins is the only big blow. Maybe Frenchie but not exactly sure how he would have fit into the current scheme.
I thought I read in 247 article I believe that in order to qualify for the immediate eligibility rule for this year, one has to be in portal by July 1. So while that doesn’t explain why some of these didn’t come sooner, it does explain why all these are being announced now.
EyeoftheIllini is right. 1 July is the deadline for the immediately eligible part of the transfer stipulation.
Most likely the staff asked all players to hold off on transfer decisions until the staff could formally evaluate them and have realistic discussions with them all. And that they promised it would all be complete by late June.
I’m guessing those discussions happened and everyone knows exactly where they stand for this year and the future.
Thus, all the transfers now.
Please take this very sound logical explanation somewhere else.

I'm surprised after just talking with him Saturday, he wasn't acting odd and seemed pro-Illini. Here's my concern, he was with Kevin Tyler who is not currently on the team, he said he didn't make the cut, now Frenchie is leaving, other person with them was Reggie Love. I hope he doesn't catch what they got.
