I've really enjoyed the coaches and players interviews so far. They seem so much more professional and intense and most of all, like they really care and want to win. I get more and more excited for the 28th.

Speaking of, will they have anything special before or during the game since that FOX crew will be there or the 01 reunion?

Unless Lovie was a 100%, completely different person in practice than he was publicly (very doubtful), then this team (BB’s) can’t help but be better prepared come game day….better staff, and an enormously more engaged, enthusiastic, and focused head coach than what we suffered with during the last 4 years. They need to upgrade the talent, no doubt, and that will ultimately be the determining factor of whether or not BB is successful, but he is an incredible breath of fresh air after Lovie “pay my family and let me sleep” Smith.

What's crazy is that BB is using his experience from the NFL as a foundation, which is what we wanted Lovie to do!

Was checking to see what kind of salary our basketball assistants were getting and thought it would be fun to check Miles Smith's salary last season. And wow I am glad we got rid of these two. Shoot he almost made more than Small who is probably one of the best coaches in the country in any sport.

The idiotic coaching mistakes and momentum killing penalties, coverage lapses, and mental errors should be greatly reduced under the leadership of BB and his outstanding staff. That, along with our veteran talent, should have the Illini surprisingly competitive for a bowl bid and a six win season. This is the first time I have felt good about our program in several seasons. In BB I trust.

My opinion is that we will be the Indiana of last year. They surprised a lot of pundits and had a very good year. I see us doing that this year. Experience always helps. So now BB has to recruit and recruit hard. But I see us hitting the portal hard this season for next. I heard the pod cast and they said we could lose up to 40 players. That is a lot of room for next season. Go Illini and will be at the game Aug 28th. Did anyone get the call from coach about buying tickets? Hope no more injuries.

Anything below 9 wins is a failure on BB's part. Most of this board expected 8 or 9 wins with Lovie before Covid. BB has the same players with everyone a year older, faster, stronger, and with more experience. If he is the coach that everyone says he is, 9 should be the expectation. Lovie's defense cannot be run at the college level and his insistence upon pounding the ball on the ground hurt him also.

I'm pretty high on this team and believe they can make a bowl, but that statement has way too much orange kool aid.

My heart says it will be 6 wins, which would be massive for getting us out of the gutter that will be next year. However, I think it will be 5. And anything other than 5 wins imo is a failure, because with our weak non conference schedule we would have played last year, that would have been our win total.

But it's not Kool Aid. It's creating unrealistic expectations. He hated the BB hire. And there's no way most of this board expected 8-9 wins from Lovie's staff.
100% spot on, it’s a complete straw man - no one who watched the Lovie sleepy-time act thought his teams would ever win anything approaching 8-9 wins, his ceiling was his “craptacular” 6-7 season in 2019. 10-33 against the Big, 17-39 overall is enough said.

We are limited to a recruiting class of 25 though, are we not?

Disagree that most expected that from Lovie last year. If we had Michigan level talent on the team, sure a good coach could have a quick improvement. Even then I’m not sure 8 wins is a failure and we don’t have superior talent to anyone. We have more experience and none of it in this system. That said, I’m hopeful for 6 wins.

I'm so excited about this season for three main reasons:

1) Most importantly, even if we have another meh-to-bad year ... it's so much easier to watch when a coach is in Year 1 of a rebuild. It just is. If I even see flashes and have ANY reason for optimism after this season is over, I will be ecstatic.

2) I am so excited to just have a normal college football season again. Thinking about heading down for the Wisconsin game (sucks the Hyatt is always sold out ... that's my go-to for basketball ... how are there not more hotels Downtown with how cool the area has become?!?!).

3) We have a decent chance at literally ruining Nebraska's season and sending their fans off the edge ... in WEEK ZERO. Haha. :)

Mom and dad are Nebraska fans and we’re meeting up for the game. I don’t know what the status of our relationship will be afterward if things don’t go the Huskers way

If we ruin Nebraskas season in week 0 I will be so happy. I wouldn't care if we lost every other game.
