For those of us worrying about season/student ticket sales, Bret mentions early on in the scrum video that student ticket sales are up 70% since he took over. Lets keep the momentum rolling.
Because of COVID there were 2 classes of students that have never went to a game. My experience is Freshman seemed to be more willing to buy season tickets, so you had double “freshman”, which explains the increase in tickets

Let’s win games and keep these new students.

This could be the simple explanation, I would hope they took it into account when they came up with the number, but who knows maybe the DIA will take a win wherever they can get it in football.

Interesting from the scrum video was Bret talking about how JW has supported the program and gotten what they needed including getting the funding for new equipment, top of the line helmets, the turf, etc. Really drives home how driven Whitman is as an AD and how much he wants to build elite level programs. Also just how good he is at getting things done!

Hello fellas,

My family of 5 and some guests are planning a trip for the Iowa game. I haven't tailgated here since I was a kid in the 90's, but made a lot of great memories during those trips.

Is it worth setting up a tent inside Grange Grove, or do lots of people still just tailgate out of their trunk in another lot?

Also if I showed up at Grange Grove at 7AM on gameday, would it still be easy to haul a wagon over and set up a tent?

Thanks for any advice!

Matthew Bailey, our late add from Moline, looks like an animal. Tank is gonna have fun with him.

Other frosh notes, Jacas up to 260 and Boyer 265. Amazing.

Can’t speak to logistics, but I can speak to atmosphere. GG is SUPER correlated with the weather, point in the season (recordwise) and opponent. Against Iowa on the second weekend in October, it will be WELL worth it and will show the potential Memorial Stadium has to be a “tailgating destination” within the Big Ten.

Grange Grove can be fantastic and is very easy to get to and set up. You are allowed to drive right up next to it to drop stuff off. Just make sure you get there as early as possible and have everything on wheels and/or lots of people to transport. That game should have a great atmosphere. There are plenty of things for kids to do, including bouncy houses, face painting, etc. I‘m betting there will be a ton of Squawkeyes there so wear your Orange!

I can't remember if I made a prediction a while ago not (I don't think so?) but barring an injury to IW1 or Chase, I'll lock it in now: 5-7

Wins against Wyoming (replacing a lot), Virginia (star QB but everyone else is gone including the coaching staff), Chattanooga (should roll), Iowa (has to happen some time, QB questions for them), & NW (they'll struggle again this year).

Just caught Coach Mel Tucker's interview from media day, impressive man and ball coach. Man we are going to miss Daniel Barker. I am excited about our O line, love the 2 Juco men, impressive. He should have stuck around. Barker, Ford, an IW, then our Rb's. Wow.
My hopes: 6-6 bowl eligible, 7-5 big smile, and 8-4 huge achievement.

I'm afraid I agree with the 5-7 outcome being likely. I still hold onto bits of hope for 6-6 though.

A bowl game would be a real "blessing."

I see beating Nebby, PSU. Purdue and possibly Minny to the equation. We should win 2 of these games along with the Non conference games and we could win 7 games in year 2 of BB

I dont know what to expect from this program, they could lose to Chattanooga and beat Michigan to finish 4-8. Every year it seems they beat someone they shouldn't while crapping to bed against someone they can beat and ending up with us saying this 4-8 team could've made a bowl game if they just scored points, played some defense, had better play calling etc

I completely understand what you're saying here. Predicting the Illini schedule is like predicting the NCAA tournament games. You think something seems obvious but it's not. Side note: I love the fact that we get Wyoming at home to get the jitters out before a conference opponent, who will not have played their first game. Wyoming won't be a slouch but they lose a LOT from a good team. Solid program though, expecting a dawg fight but we take the reigns in the second half.

Well the Vegas over/under is 4.5, so that would be beating the spread.

4.5 is higher than I thought it would be, between that and the preseason media poll, I think I need to revise my own expectations a bit upward. If our offensive line can be reasonably competent a big step backwards shouldn't be likely.

Every year it seems they beat someone they shouldn't while crapping to bed against someone they can beat
The reason this is such a cliche is because it's extremely common in sports, especially in college. We're not unique.

For those of us who cheered on the St. Louis Rams, you know we “celebrate” July 9 as Jeff Fischer day. The perennial 7-9 record was quite spectacular.

When does May 7 become “Illini Football Day” for the same reason…? 🤷‍♂️
