Lose at Kansas -- seriously they had 1/2 a good season
8-4 would be fantastic - have to steal a road win at Maryland, Minnesota or Iowa

I just dont see a loss at Minnesota. I do think we are underdogs to Penn State. I think we are more than competitive with everyone else.

We will be ranked in the preseason while KU will be in the high 50’s so not worried. With the schedule we have and our team being overall better than last year, I see 10-2 or 11-1 going into the B1G Championship game. I think we will be that good.

Here's my guess:

1. Defense about equal to last year (optimistic, I realize): Better DL and LB play, but some decline in the secondary.
2. Offense, running the ball: I don't see another Chase Brown talent yet. I think we'll be decent, but not as good as last year on the ground.
3. Offense, passing: Improved WR play, but QB still a big question mark. I think Altmeyer has a higher ceiling than DeVito, but DeVito was very good last year. He didn't make many mistakes, and consistently gave us a chance to win. I expect Altmeyer to show some skills DeVito didn't have, but to make a few more mistakes as well.
4. Special Teams: Improved kicking/punting. Improved punt and kick returns.
5. Coaching: Lunney's offense should be better in his second year. A new DC may bring a few bumps in the road.

Putting all those together, I think we could be equal to slightly better than last year. I would be very happy to go 7-5 and win a bowl game.

I'd be very happy with this.

Last year, the difference between 4-8 and 8-4 was Mr. Thomas DeVito. Shoot, if he had been our QB in 2021 we would have won 8 that year as well. Our defense will keep us in every game we play. If Altmeyer is Brandon Peters II we go anywhere from 4-8 to 6-6. If he is the next Tommy D we go 7-5 or 8-4. If he miraculously ends up being better than that, we could win 10+

Last year we were a 10-2 team that got jobbed into 8-4. I don't think we'll be as good as last year with no Chase, no ready for the NFL DB's, and an unproven QB. I think 5-7 is our floor and 8-4 is our ceiling. In my mind 6-6 and a bowl win would be a success, bit of course I want better. 8-4 again would be a dream.

I think (and desperately hope…) that we break our losing streak at Kinnick this year and systematically shut down the Hawkeyes.
