i would love Altmyer to exceed those numbers but if he did it would be a 2nd historic season of QB play at Illinois. the good thing is, i don't think he will need to exceed those numbers for the team to be successful.


(also, it's hard to underestimate how unbelievable Tommy DeVito was for us last year. literally had a record setting season in his only year here.... if only we could have gotten a waiver to run it back one more time...)

Well a worse offensive squad put up 21 first half points on Ohio State in 2022... 3 would mean Illinois has the best defense in the country again.

he needs a real real good season. if he can get more than just a few TD’s, it will help
he’s on the small side for college , he’s on the real small side for pros .
he might make money as a pro , but it might not be in the NFL

Tariq Cohen made it on the Bears a few years , so there’s a chance .

DeVito's stats were impressive, especially when compared to our best future-NFL quarterbacks of the 1980's. Here is what the "norm" should be in a pass-oriented college game. These stats span our most prolific 12 year stretch. (NOTE: Passing accuracy has, of course, improved immensely in today's game.)

1980 - Dave Wilson 53% 3154 yards 19 TDs/14 INT
1981 - Tony Eason 62% 3360 yards 20 TDs/14 INT
1982 - Tony Eason 62% 3248 yards 17 TDs/15 INT
1983 - Jack Trudeau 63% 2446 yards 18 TDs/13 INT
1984 - Jack Trudeau 65% 2724 yards 18 TDs/10 INT
1985 - Jack Trudeau 64% 2938 yards 15 TDs/15 INT
1988 - Jeff George 58% 2257 yards 9 TDs/8 INT
1989 - Jeff George 63% 2738 yards 22 TDs/12 INT
1990 - Jason Verduzco 65% 2567 yards 16 TDs/12 INT
1991 - Jason Verduzco 60% 3014 yards 15 TDs/14 INT

We've lowered the bar way too much during this recent stretch of BAD football. BB is working to fix that.

There's a LOT of question marks to foresee that type of outcome. We're replacing one of the most productive RBs in school history to the NFL, a very solid QB and three DBs to the NFL.

That's quite a bit for any program to replace.

Nice! My wife is pregnant and due in January, so our tentative plan is to also attend the Penn State game ... assuming we can go, I cannot wait! I honestly don't remember the last time I went down for a game where it wasn't freezing cold.

On a slightly related note, does anyone know what our season ticket sales are at (approximately)? I saw the post about the percentage increase, but I can't find a good base number. Having a large number of season tickets makes it SO much easier to get big crowds on a consistent basis, rather than relying on Illini fans who originally had other plans for that Saturday to make impromptu trips to Champaign!

Congratulations on the baby on the way! Always love your posts with the historical data for our greatest games, attendance, etc....and I'll be interested to see if you can still find the time to do that with the little one!
