Anyone else having absurd preseason dreams yet? Had the pleasure of watching us defeat Miami (FL) by a score of 72-54 between the ears last night. Our helmets were yellow for some reason.

Seems likely. Here is the updated Sellout Watch tracker for Toledo and Penn State. I estimate over 43,000 sold for both games. I'm surprised there isn't significantly more sold for Penn State yet.

Love the posts, as always! A couple questions to ponder here:

1. Last year, we drew 44,910 for Iowa and 45,683 for Minnesota. Add on a beatdown of Nebraska in Lincoln, a 7-1 record and a #16 ranking, and we drew 56,092 for Michigan State. In other words, some proper hype to buy in got over 10,000 fans to buy tickets. With that in mind, let's say we draw about 46,000 for Toledo ... does starting off 2-0 (including an impressive win in Lawrence vs. KU) get us pushing a sellout? Adding 10,000 more would have us at 56,000 for PSU, but I would hope our fans would be quicker to hop on the bandwagon this year as compared to last year, especially for Big Noon Kickoff in gorgeous weather.

2. More importantly! My wife and I are about to officially add our two cents to the sellout tracker for the PSU game today, and I had a question for the group. We would prefer to be in East Main so as to have a nice pressbox view (I had her looking at the empty east balcony last year, and it was a downer). Anyone know about what row it starts to be underneath the east balcony overhang? It is difficult to tell online, and we would prefer to be in the sun.

Can't wait!

Good morning Dr. altgeld88.............................
Good morning, Hal. Are you still working up your Illini team psychology report? What's that? Oh. Please don't tell me that you've picked up a fault in the AE-35 unit and that it will imminently fail. There are only 22 days until the opening kickoff v. Toledo and I really don't don't want to have do an EVA in the interim. On the other hand, we rely solely on that antenna to receive time-delayed feed of the Illini football and basketball games. And, as importantly, for access to my Loyalty account. That's essentially all that's keeping me sane until we reach Jupiter space. It really, really is...

Oh, all right, HAL. We'll do an EVA to investigate the AE-35 unit.

I'm currently competing my analysis of the mysterious monolith in Jupiter space. My working hypothesis is that it's some sort of portal to conference realignment, a twin of the one that the ancients buried many millennia ago on the Central Illinois prairie for us to uncover, and which has led us, a mere 13 months hence, on this long journey to within reach of the 2024 season.

Accordingly, I can't do the EVA. Am much too busy. Crewman Fitzgerald, however, will handle it in the #51 pod. He's usually quite busy this time of year but appears to have a great deal of time on his hands suddenly. He's just the man for the job. Am sure it all will go smoothly.

Dr. Altgeld88, it appears Crewman Fitzgerald is completely disrobing prior to the EVA. Is this standard operating procedure?

Except the Penn State game is an 11:00 AM start. Which makes it difficult for fans as far away as StL for example, to be able to tailgate or even show up at all. Gawd I hate 11:00 AM starts.

Is anyone really surprised that the increased TV presence including the time changes for later games plus other Saturday distractions including youth sports is affecting attendance. Some of the game day changes will attract more people, but to expect a sell out for every game may be idealistic and will probably only come when a championship team is playing. More TV does mean more money. So, I speculate that the Athletic Dept. will accept that trade off. More people in the stands though means a better picture to be shown on said TV, for recruits etc. to be impressed by which means better recruiting that leads to championship teams. What a cycle!!
Usually if the weather is good on game day there is a good walk up of ticket buyers at the stadium. For the old timers in the stands, I really wish that they play better music.

No, but it will make his "settlement" much quicker and less traumatic if he's fully exposed to the vacuum of the cosmos. And that's not a locker room euphemism.

I'm a prisioner of my own thoughts , my own dreams , the dreams that travel the galaxies of human mental consumption.......

my appetite for knowledge has consumed my cranial desires and left me weak with emotions of " what does it all mean ? "

are we destined to a brief existence on this orb , then silenced forever ?.....or do we span the multiverse looking for another exercise in this futile madness called life ???????????...................................

if this is it then I say long live bikini & T.R. pics forever and hopefully they traverse the remaining carbon units forever.........

Below is the view from the horseshoe, using https://www.seats3d.com/ncaa/university_illinois/football/#/

It appears the balcony overhangs the seats to about 8 rows below the floor of upper tunnels, which should appear on the seat maps. Sunlight will reach further up, depending on the time of day. The bottom edge of the tunnels could be a sweet spot with afternoon sun, no obstruction from posts, and shelter from rain. If this rendering is accurate the posts are at the base of the tunnels, obstructing views from some of the higher seats.

The pillars are at approximately Row 40.
