Honestly surprised we are getting any mention at all (have a feeling the ones still showing Illini in are still using last year as a measuring stick). Looking at the schedule to go bowling (without 5 win exemption), Illini would need to win all three games they are "projected as of now" to be favored in (Nebraska, IU, Northwestern), and then have an upset win (best bet would be @Minnesota but that feels like a stretch right now, followed by Homecoming vs Wisconsin). I do not like chances @Maryland or @Iowa.

Amazing that most of us felt 7+ wins would be a good year, 6 wins a slight disappointment, and no bowl a complete bust. At this point making a bowl would be an accomplishment given how this team is performing. If the first 5 games are any indication, this team looks like 4-5 wins is the most realistic outcome.

Truly a disappointing month of September for this program, especially how dominated they have looked at times. It might be another 30 years until Illini have back-to-back winning regular seasons.

It’s quiet on the insider front. I wonder what discussions are happening behind the scenes. Bret was clearly ticked, as he should be, after Saturday’s performance and I have to believe changes of some kind are coming. I don’t know if we will get this fixed this season or not, but I have confidence that BB will not stand for mediocrity and that alone makes me glad he’s our coach. No one is working harder than him right now.

I’m still full-steam ahead on Altmyer, don’t get me wrong, but I’ll just say that the next time we hit garbage time I’d kinda prefer to get Donovan Leary, Kirkland Michaux and Cal Swanson some reps to start developing them. In the portal era is really not like to have a stone unturned on homegrown talent if this is gonna be a lost season. Altmyer looks young and full of potential but he also shows so far that he can make some real dumb mistakes. Lives reps help develop that and it would be nice when a game is lost to start getting those other guys some time.

Now, if we’re in a tight one with Nebraska or something and Altmyer gets hurt, gimme paddock all day, I’m just saying I want to see some development in useless minutes.

I agree. Get Leary ready. Paddock will be gone at the end of the year. I thought get them in towards the end of the PSU game. Go Illini.

The weird thing about how young Luke Altmyer is, I believe he has 2023, 2024, and 2025 as eligible years. Leary is only a year younger so, since this is his redshirt freshman year, he’d also have 24, 25, and 26 availability. So, if altmyer pans out Donovan’s not staying if he wants a starting chance. You’ve gotta find out what you have now if you think he’s a possible contributor.

So we are below average D and and an average O. Mr. Henry, what is going on?
I think we lost three NFL level players out of our secondary and we now can't maintain coverage long enough to get pressure or cover quick routes well enough to deter that as an option.

It appears that when 3/11 of your defense leaves for the NFL, you will have a drop off in production. Also, Henry is learning on the fly as a DC, something which he's probably not ready for 100%, partially explaining the Leonhard hiring. All for making that move to Leonhard, but he's gone in 1-2yrs for a head coaching gig somewhere. I'd assume you would want Henry to stay on staff, so you'd either have to demote or make them co-DC. Hope AH can be successful, though.

Dan - please move this if needed.

Looks like Cade McNamara confirmed out for the year with ACL

And it’s really 4 in the secondary with Kendall smith. Plus 1 lb darkangelo. In dime package, only Bailey and taz returned, who were probably #5 and 6 on secondary rankings .
I don’t think you fire the chosen, promoted DC mid season or after a year. You work with him and make changes, but definitely more hands on but should’ve been already. Might not even be Henry’s fault if bb and JL and AB are in his ear to do this.. but idk

Guessing bb has a gag order with the staff. If major changes in scheme/ personnel, don’t want to leak that out.
