Hot take, but for me the safety tandem is right on par with 2022. Bailey, Miles, Xavier, Resetich ~ Sydney, Kendall Smith, Quan, Bailey.

You just may not have a Devon Witherspoon.

tepid, at best. Witherspoon is/was a CB (which I know you know), so he has no bearing on a safety discussion. same with X Scott. Rooks is a backup.

quibbles aside, I agree that this S unit is on par with '22. I think Bailey has a chance at being top dawg. for those slaves to recruiting ratings, how do you explain Bailey, Miles Scott, Resetich and Spoon?

I am FAR from a recruiting expert, but it’s always been my perception that the ratings are a lot more accurate, and therefore matter much more, for basketball.

Yeah IANARE (I am not a recruiting expert), but I think football has a couple of extra challenges:

1. The sheer volume of players. Using the 13 vs 85 scholarship model, that means the top 100 in basketball is equivalent to the top 650 in football.

2. More difficult to scout. How do you scout offensive lineman who are going to completely transform their bodies and might not even contribute for another 4-5 years?

3. As Robert’s pointed out plenty of times, the incentive of the scouting services today is to sell subscriptions and what sells the most subscriptions is telling the teams with the biggest fan bases that they’re landing the best players. So the quality of football scouting has decreased quite a bit over the past decade.

Last week’s scrimmage was closed to media and public. I am assuming the same this week.
Yea, I think opening up that Wednesday practice traumatized Bielema so bad, he's done opening it for the year.

Who were our two regular season losses to?

Not sure. And I was actually wrong on the score of the B1G Championship. It was 54-7.

In the scenario where Illinois wins the Natty, the coaching carousel goes absolutely insane:

-Kalen DeBoer and Shemar Moore take NFL jobs
-Sarkisian goes to Michigan
-Mike Norvell goes to Texas
-Jedd Fisch to Florida State
-Kyle Whittingham to Washington
-Justin Wilcox to Utah
-Dabo to Bama
-Lane Kiffin to Clemson
-Rhett Lashlee to Ole Miss
-Shane Beamer to LSU
-Matt Campbell to South Carolina
-Brian Kelly to Auburn
-Bielema goes to USC
-Lincoln Riley returns to Oklahoma
-Venables goes to Oklahoma State.

Illini end up hiring Chris Creighton of Eastern Michigan in that scenario.

The chances that Illinois wins the Natty, and as a result Bret moves to USC and we end up with the coach from Eastern Michigan are not 1 in 25. That's more like 1 in 10 billion. I didn't know computers could do such serious drugs.
