It was against Southern Illinois, who was Division 1-AA at the time.

I was there for that and while Howard was a solid college back and a good fullback in the NFL.....they force fed that record to him. Red Grange had 6 TDs versus Michigan, which most agree is still the bar.

SIU started the game off up 21-7, which 7 of those came on a Griffith fumble for a TD. After that, it was the predicted utter destruction.

We ended up winning that game 56-21. It was one of those cool moments to say you saw it live, but at the same time, it was manufactured by forcefeeding him touches against a team that we should have beaten by 50+ points. We were legitimately good during those years.

Love Howard, but your reaction to it is the reason that I'm not a big fan of the record. It's like a MLB pitcher throwing a perfect game against a High School team, then having it go in the record books.

We you start surpassing names like Jim Brown(43 points in a game) and Red Grange.....that game shouldn't be part of those conversations.
I get what you mean in regards to level of competition, but the stats don't really bear out that Griffith had the record "force fed" to him. He only had 21 carries in that game which isn't a ton for that era, and three of his touchdowns were long runs. A ton of games have been played between elite teams and nobodies in the 35 years since, and his feat still stands.

Big10 training camp segment pretty poor. Dave was great. Denardo and Howard, tools. Clement has 1300 yards and 75 catches in 2 years. Coaches don't hype their beast for a reason. Plenty on this roster. Hope for health all season. Good depth everywhere, but Running back room. We gonna miss McCray!
Didn't want to come across as a Debbie Downer, but I almost sent similar last night. Maybe I'm just used to our Illini Media / DIA productions where admittedly we are tooting our own horn and making things extra exciting, but that hour of TV was fairly boring. Was hoping for more (from the B1G production team, to be clear, not from our football players and coaches).

B1G network uses the same formula for each team. I have to think it is incredibly difficult from a production standpoint to do 18, 1-hour segments in its current form.
I think some of you may have wanted a 2024 recap, but that is not what the show is about, it's a 2025 preview. And without seeing the product on the field, there isn't a ton to talk about yet.

Gabe jacas, got to answer 1 question. Yes 1! Was only asked 1. He is pre season 1st team all American. Looks 25lbs. Leaner. 1 question. Piss poor by Big10 team.

If that's your one note, that's not that bad. X. Scott fielded more than two in that segment. Things happen. He gave a really short answer at the beginning about the "1-0 mentality" as well. So more than 1.

Final preseason SP+ ratings were released today. We fell 8 spots (from 19 to 27) in his new formula. Some have mentioned that it appears to have more SEC bias, which is likely because it now gives greater weight to recruiting rankings:

1. Ohio St
21. USC
23. Indiana
27. Illinois
37. Washington
38. Wisconsin
43. Duke
47. Rutgers
67. Maryland
86. Northwestern
100. Purdue
118. Western Michigan

Gabe Jacas last season: 74 total tackles, 44 QB pressures, 13 TFLs, 8 Sacks, 3 FF. For context, that exact line for 2023 Johnny Newton: 52/43/9/7.5/1.

He will be an absolute freak show (barring injury).
It's much easier to get those stats as an edge rusher compared to an interior defensive lineman. Johnny no doubt had the more impressive season (and IMO an even better 2022).

So recruit rankings are affected by which schools are recruiting them, and schools are as a result boosted by recruiting rankings. Feels like double dipping bias.

Yeah that’s an amazing interview and all, but let me express something that I want to make sure everyone understands about our program.

We use the word “oskee” not just because of the word “oskee”. Our success equals the knowledge of being the k, the knowledge
Knowledge is good.

How so? It's hard to guess weight by just looking. If he did lose 25 lbs. it must be by design and with Fletcher's blessing.
