Illini Football 2026

this is a prime example of why the 5 in 5 needs exceptions

Disagree. The courts have consistently said that the exceptions are never consistent and it created a legal requirement for the NCAA to move to 5-for-5. This would be the slippery slope that leads to 6-in-6, then exceptions, etc.

You get one pass if you’re injured the whole year. That’s the only exception. The courts and NCAA just have to follow that (I know, I know)

How can this be? It was just yesterday that I was watching him lead the Illini to victory over UCLA in the Kraft Hunger Bowl . . . Oh 💩, it has been that long
I mean it doesn't seem long ago that he was completing his first 13 passes in the bowl game against Baylor and RGIII! Man time flies.

‘“Since allowing 37 points to Michigan State, Illinois has not allowed more than 17 points in its last three matchups. In fact, in the five games since defensive coordinator Bobby Hauck’s departure, the Illini have allowed 20.2 points per game.”

We now have a pretty good defense. They fought hard last night.

I wonder if there is a team in the SEC with a similar resume to ours and if so, are they rated in the top 15? I don’t care enough to look it up and it sounds like a bit of hyperbole to me but his larger point stands regarding ranking of SEC v B10.

The three loss top 25 teams are Oregon, SC, and Florida.

There are a bunch of 6-2 teams in the hunt according to the CFP rankings and some number of them will finish the day 6-3.

So Bret's not wrong, just early.
