Illini Golf 2025-2026

They may not win it, but they've had a good front nine, 5 under as a team and have climbed to within 7 strokes of UCLA.

All five Illini at even par or better, definitely giving themselves a shot.

Just not good enough especially on the par 5s. Disappointing to get 2nd (probably) for 3 years in a row now. UCLAs 5th guy mostly sucked but you only count 4. Illini need more consistent guys going low not having so much depth but rarely that anyone has put together even 2 or 3 good rounds

Congrats to Trey, Max, Ryan, Dane, Freddie and Ethan on their awards yesterday. Disclaimer: If I missed anyone it is because I haven't seen the post yet. Well done all.

Home stretch. Find those low scores and let the birdies drop!

Posts are up on X. I'll summarize instead of copying the links:

All B1G First Team: Max, Ryan, Trey, Dane (all but Dane were unanimous selections)
All B1G Second Team: Freddie
Sportsmanship Award: Ethan

Congrats to all!

Match play has been Illini's Achilles' heel, imo, fwiw, preventing them from winning a national championship. Great NCAA performances nevertheless. Go Illini!

As a fan of all things Illini, but new to following Golf, how can I watch the matches, especially the postseason coming up here? I’ve mostly been following along with that Scoreboard (?) website each tournament, but would love to tune in on a stream or broadcast when I can to watch the Boys in Orange & Blue! I-L-L!

2024. Illinois won stroke play by 16 shots; lost quarterfinal match play 3-1 to Georgia Tech.
That was it, they had a great shot to win match play with different match-ups that made more sense.

That said, what Mike Small has done with the program is beyond incredible, almost unbelievable for any program, let alone a northern program in Illinois. I hope they can win it all once before he retires.

As I've said, Illinois is the golf power of the north, no doubt, thanks to Coach Small. But Illini traditionally seem to start slow in tournaments lately, perenially. Maybe a match-play mentality is needed instead of a free-wheeling stroke play, golf-outing type thing. But what the heck do I know as a garden-variety common duffer? Mike Small is the man; I will never second guess him. I don't expect him to retire any time soon. Again, what do I know? Nada. Go Illini!
