Illini Golfers in the Pros

Note to Thomas Detry et al: to be young, playing golf professionally, making bucks, living in Puntacana. Enjoy everything, the moment. Or else you could end up like me: a 72 year old waiting for true spring and courses to thaw out here in northern Illinois and hoping I can shoot low - high 80s, maybe - for 18 holes. Gonna attack the 9-holer executive course here and goal is two or three over par this summer.

I really don't think Thomas will share my fate. But it is a fine fate - to have the urge to play still. It happens every spring when The Masters comes around. I think of Arnie and Jack and Ben Hogan.

Good luck from here on out, Thomas and rest of Illini.

Wyndham Clark was getting the Rahm/Scheffler/Rory treatment this week being the heavy favorite in the 7/1 to 9/1 range.

These are the type of tournaments when our guys need to have a nice showing. Ton of star power at match play and big secondary field plus tourneys like Punta Cana, Bahamas, etc can keep guys not only winning some dough but keep their cards. Very nice showing this weekend!!!

Sorry, didn't mean to leave out Sarazen, Lord Byron, Sam Snead, Crenshaw, Couples or any other Masters' champions.

Detry and Hardy having good second rounds. Both should make the cut.

Detry playing the round of golf from hell today, unfortunately. From -7 to +1 in 7 holes. Time to turn to hat around.
Now +11 on the day after 15 holes. Noticed he's 0/8 in bunker saves today. Hardy had a better day but bogeyed the last 2 holes to finish-3 for the tourney.

Not off to a good start. 3 over today thru 6. Really going to have to turn it on to make the cut.

Pieters struggled (like much of the field) to finish T48 at +8. Still banked $49K though...

Next up is the RBC Heritage, a "designated event" with many of the big Tour names including Rahm and Scheffler. Also in the field: Detry and Hardy. Good luck Illini!

Hardy playing well. Tied for second.

Pieters’ range goats in first place in Oz. He isn’t playing well, but could help his team win in last round.

Would be nice if our team Hardy/Riley got just a little TV time considering they are now in first after starting the day birdieing their first 5 holes.

Re: Nick tv coverage. I guess it all depends what hole he and partner are playing and where tv cameras are stationed.

Last hour or so, more Nick coverage on CBS.
