Illini Golfers in the Pros

#2
Thanks to their side-by-side Fedex Cup ranking, Detry and Campbell are paired together for the first two rounds in Memphis:

I'm sure Coach wasn't very happy with shooting high in the third round, but I bet he was very proud of his guys. Go Illini.

Detry is T17 at -4 going into the weekend, Campbell is T48 at even par. Goal is probably top 10 to improve their chances of getting to East Lake (they both have enough points to make the BMW field next week).

Other Illini to watch:
- PGA Americas: Jackson Buchanan is having his best tournament so far, currently T5 at the Biosteel Championship in Ottawa.
- KFT: Luke Guthrie made the cut in Omaha, currently T36. Looking for another good showing to keep moving up in the standings.
- DPWT: Matthis Besard is T19 in his first DP World Tour start in months (he's been in the second-tier HotelPlanner Tour most of the year). Solid showing on what looks like some rough conditions. At least he didn't do this:

Brian shot himself in the foot with 4 straight bogeys on the back 9. Still in 38th spot so he will make it to next week but he needs to go low at the BMW to get inside the top 30.

When you play at this level and been on the Tour for as long as Tommy has been on it, wins are what they are looking for as the money is secondary. Wins creates more opportunities to make money as in commercials and sponsorship money. Shoot, Campbell has made over 3 million and he is not at the level of success, yet.

Memphis winnings: Detry $84k, Campbell $42k.

Additionally, by qualifying for the BMW Championship, Detry and Campbell have earned a spot into every Signature Event for the 2026 season. If they can get into the top 30 after this weekend, they would also gain entry into all four majors next year.

Currently only Campbell has an exemption for the Masters and PGA Championship next year, thanks to his win at the John Deere Classic.

Currently Detry #36 and Campbell #39...a little work to do but not impossible...

I had the absolute pleasure of hosting Luke Guthrie for the Pinnacle Bank Championship in Omaha. This was by far the best hosting experience I’ve had. Luke is just a great person, incredible golfer, and an awesome ambassador for Illinois golf. He spent most of his non playing time visiting with my wife and I and also spent hours on two occasions playing with my grandkids.
I learned a lot about Illini golf, coach Small, the recruiting process, and life as a professional golfer.
He said he hasn’t had his A game since last fall but he gutted it out and made the cut. He didn’t have the weekend he was hoping for but he still has several more events to move up. He said he is halfway into a 3 year goal of getting back to the pga tour and I am rooting for him.

And I love those head covers.
