Illini Golfers in the Pros

A few tournament notes:

- Jackson Buchanan had a nice run, but still finished short of the Top 10 (and KFT status). Still impressive, as he finished #27 despite still being in school for the first half of the PGA Americas schedule. He will enter next year with guaranteed starts for the Latin America swing, but will likely try Q-School first (he is exempt into second stage thanks to PGA University).

- This weekend is the second-to-last Korn Ferry Tour event. Luke Guthrie is #85 in the points list and will have to get to #75 to qualify for the final event and earn a full exemption in the KFT next year. If he falls short he will still have conditional status. ADC is #26 and will have two tournaments to get to the top 20 (and back onto the Tour).

- Nick Hardy is not in the field at the Sanderson Farms Championship, which is a bit of a surprise considering how much work he has to do to stay on the Tour.

ADC going low in Oklahoma! Currently T2, which would put him into the promotion zone. Guthrie off to a good start, but work to do - will probably need a top-ten finish to maintain full status on the KFT.

Four guys double-digits under par in one round! Including another 59 (sarcastic yawn), which seems almost commonplace these days.

And this is not even the top tour...need to toughen up these courses.

Campbell finishes strong in Japan with a final round of 5 under:

T20Brian Campbell276 / -80.000$81,508.57

Very bizarre year for Brian, this is the first time he finished in the top 30 and didn't win. But those wins matter: he is fully exempt thru 2028 and has guaranteed starts for next year's Masters, PGA Championship, Players and all signature events. He has a big opportunity next season, looking forward to see what he can do!

PGA Tour Q-School is underway, with 5 Tour cards and 40-plus KFT exemptions at stake. I counted 8 Illini participating in first stage, with three others likely to jump in at second or final stage based on exemptions. Here's the rundown, I will update as needed:

Link to leaderboards

10/7-10 AZ: Michael Feagles (advanced to second stage)
10/14-17 NE: Tommy Kuhl (underway)
10/14-17 NJ: Timmy Crawford (underway)
10/21-24 IN: Dylan Meyer, Tyler Goecke, Noah Gillard
10/21-24 AL: Piercen Hunt
10/21-24 FL (West Palm): Varun Chopra

Second Stage (early-December, tentative): Jackson Buchanan, Luke Guthrie, Michael Feagles
Final Stage (mid-December): Nick Hardy (?)
'26 PGA Tour members: Brian Campbell, Thomas Detry, Adrien Dumont de Chassart

Note: Jackson is exempt to second stage due to PGA University. Luke is exempt due to making 50 lifetime PGA Tour cuts. Nick probably needs to improve to get one of the 40 final stage exemptions reserved for those failing to finish in the Fedex Cup top 100 (he is currently #166).

Nick finishes birdie-par-birdie to finish at -1 for the tourney. Cut line has been gyrating between -1 and -2. So, we'll see if he plays on the weekend. Plenty of players still on the course and yet to tee off. Beautiful scenery to boot.

I hope Dylan's got his ulcerative colitis under control. Bad. My mother suffered from it.

I had the pleasure of shuttling him and Illini (and whole field) between holes 9 and 10 at Rich Harvest Farms during 2017 NCAA Championships. Gentlemen.

My best regards to you, Dylan.
