Did no GMs actually watch a compilation clip of him in an Illini uniform?
There is no doubt the Bulls got a steal, but I’d be real curious as to where the Bulls had Ayo slotted prior to the draft. If the Bulls had the 14th selection or 23rd selection would they have also passed on him in those spots. I’m sure other GMs were well aware of his competitive makeup, but the other part of the equation is how much does one think that makeup will elevate him to overcome shortcomings you think he has or add to his potential for growth. Have to remember the draft is all about potential. I think 22 of the players drafted were either freshmen, G-league or foreign players and 8 were sophomores. Should Ayo have been picked higher than he was? It certainly seems so. But it also seems that Ayo ended up in a great situation in his home town. For that I am thankful because I wouldn’t be getting the same kind of enjoyment from his success if he had gone to another team 10 picks higher.

I thought he said the one thing was 3 pt shooting, and he followed up with this comment right afterwards.

He mentioned the 3 pt shooting right after that comment.

Which I believe was the overall weakness he was sharing, not that he lacked competitiveness.
