I’m not a Bulls fan. Outsider looking in, it was always weird how they kept drafting and trading for guards who weren’t as good as Ayo, but were essentially the same age - Okoro, Terry, Tre Jones. Ultimately they traded him for a guard that isn’t as good, too - Dillingham.

They lucked into a second round steal and then refused to take the win and build the roster elsewhere.
I think they knew they were going to have to pay him much more money and wanted to sell off b/c of their rebuild ambitions but not realizing that Ayo and Coby were valuable pieces to your rebuild. I contend they were one star player away from being 4/5 seed caliber team in the East with Giddey, Matas, Ayo, and Coby as your core pieces. Sign another star player in free agency this offseason and they probably would've been in solid shape. But nope, they blew it up for the sake of blowing it up.

Simply cost reduction. Just look who is the boss. All Bulls fans know that and I am not even one of them.

The Bulls did Ayo a favor by trading him. He can actually win and really showcase his skills now.

Sucks for Bulls fans, but as an Ayo fan, I am very happy he is getting the opportunity in Minnesota.
As more of an Ayo fan than a Bulls fan (I live in the Chicago area now, but did not grow up here, so I am a fan but pretty casual about it), I think it was such a blessing in disguise for him. I think if they had kept him and decided they wanted to re-sign him he would have stayed, just because of his connection to the city. But that would have been bad for his career. I'm hoping that now that he's seen that life can be good with another NBA org, he'll be focused on finding the best possible situation for himself this offseason.

that's shockingly low number of triple doubles for a franchise in the NBA? maybe I'm just used to seeing Westbrook and jokic pump them out every other night over the past few years

its specifically referencing those point/rebound totals as part of a triple double. quick check and the Twolves have 44 total triple doubles in their history

crazy thing is he was one assist shy of having completed the triple double in the 3rd quarter

Further perspective:
Larry Bird. Nikola Jokić. Ayo Dosunmu. The three players in NBA history with 15+ PTS / 60+ FG% / 15+ REB / 10+ AST / 3 + STL / <1 TO
Pretty good company . . .
That means zero turnovers. Did you mean one or less?

My dream....LeBron gone, and Ayo getting PAID, playing for my Lakers.

He had one turnover to go along with his 12 assists. Pretty good ratio for a player that the Bulls decided wasn't a point guard.
If AYO keeps this up, he is going to get paid even more than any of us thought was likely to occur. The trade to the Timberwolves is really allowing him to show off his complete game on both ends of the Court. If they make a deep run into the playoffs with AYO playing a significant role, some team is going to pay him starter money and as an EDG he will make sure that they never regret it.

Not good on the TSJ front

Terrence Shannon Jr. is begging the Timberwolves to draft his replacement

I'm shocked he's not having more impact. being behind Ant isn't helping but he crushed it when Ant was out last year. hope he gets traded honestly and a chance for some consistent minutes and good health. I still believe he can be a starter in the league
I do not believe he is a starter on a playoff team. I don't believe his skill set translates to production in the NBA. I hope I'm wrong.

Its crazy to think about someone who is 6-8/6-9 but it seems like he wasnt even done going through puberty when he was here. His physical growth along with his high skill ceiling has turned him into a force.
I feel like we all saw it when he arrived here, kind of a tangle of limbs, hadn't really grown into his body yet, but the physical profile, skill level, and just feel for offense made you go "oh yeah in five years this could be a superstar".

"Feel", "craft", the endless refrain in our recruiting, the staff is so good at identifying those traits. And it's what the NBA craves now, which makes us punch above our weight putting kids in the league, which adds to our draw on the recruiting trail, we've got an upward spiral going here.

It's interesting having these two topics right on top of each other in this thread, TSJ and Will Riley.

I think you're right about the latter's feel for the game and craftiness, which is in stark contrast to the former's brute force style (and his inability to go right, as was mentioned, is a major impediment to the sort of creativity that almost all great players are able to muster).

I would have thought for sure that TSJ would have been the surprise success story and Will would have been the one who struggled a bit more.
