The non-conference schedule dropped yesterday. I don't want to jinx anything but it looks like an easier slate than recent years. They're also staying much closer to home this year.

What positions do our newest recruits play?

Pitcel is a Middle Blocker from Wisconsin. Kirsch is a Libero/Defensive Specialist from South Dakota. They're both Class of 25 commits.

I read that Pitcel is #47 in the PrepDig rankings. Not sure of ranking for Taryn.

Why does it seem like we rarely recruit Illinois kids for volleyball? I will be the first to admit that I’m not an avid follower of high school volleyball, but I’d take a stab and say Illinois is loaded with talent.

Seems to be a similar problem with soccer and basketball too. Lots of talent from the state playing at other big ten and P5 schools.

IMO, Illinois volleyball has significantly fallen since Hambly and Poulter left. Therefore they are not getting the top recruits in the state of Illinois. I don't really care for the style of vb they are playing now and watch more of other teams like Nebraska.

My memory could be foggy, but I feel like the program was struggling to bring in top in-state players before Hambly left.

This is my memory as well. I feel like Illinois has never recruited the state hard or very well.
Aren't we pretty far behind in facilities too?

Huff has to be one of the oldest places in the B1G, but maybe it's so old it's cool by now.

From what I could find just doing a quick google search, here are the ages of the B1G facilities (at least as of the 2021 article I found):

-Huff Hall, Illinois: 1925
-Recreation Building, Penn State: 1929
-Wisconsin Field House, Wisconsin: 1930
-College Ave. Gym, Rutgers: 1932
-Jenison Fieldhouse, Michigan State: 1940
-Welsh Ryan Arena, Northwestern: 1952
-Cliff Keen Arena, Michigan: 1956
-Bob Devaney Sports Center, Nebraska: 1976
-Belin Court at Holloway Gymnasium, Purdue: 1982
-Maturi Pavilion, Minnesota: 1994 (This one you could technically say is one of the oldest if you consider it part of the old Williams Arena)
-Xfinity Center Pavilion, Maryland: 2002
-Wilkinson Hall, Indiana: 2019
-Covelli Center, Ohio State: 2019
-Xtream Arena, Iowa: 2020

Yeah I see no correlation between age of the facility and quality of the program there.
