what I do like about the womens game, is they play below the rim and its more like the way the guys played in college basketball in the 1960's- 1970's. its a much more structured, organized offense, with points coming from set plays and not as much "1 on 1" . ( its how we played the game when I was a lad)

If that's your thing, it's absolutely worth giving the WNBA a shot. Season starts May 19th. Here's the Chicago Sky's schedule:

Those stats, for those who are interested:
BRucks - Thanks for all the WBB tidbits you unearth. I have enjoyed following them this year and looks like I'm becoming a long term fan. But, being retired in New Orleans, I am a bit out of the local loop. Info you post up has been very informative. Thanks again.

Since we have a little WNBA talk in here with the women's bball team the WNBA players make a small fraction here compared to playing overseas. Half the league has played overseas for a number of years now. A handful of the top players salaries are going up just a little from last season but will make around $234k. The WNBA has worked on increasing the minimums and salaries but it is coming along at a slow pace. Think they are trying to have the top players make $500k by the year 2027. Russell Westbrook makes just under $574k a game(calculated by 82 regular season games even though he won't play that many)this season. Think the top few picks of the Draft start a little above $70k a season.

Griner has played overseas but so has a veteran like Diana Taurasi for close to 10 years now. They are getting around $1 million to $1.5 million between playing and few endorsements a season overseas.

Nancy Fahey could x and o but had spent a lifetime judging talent based on how well it would translate to D3 competition. She was woefully ill prepared to recruit at the B1G level and waited way too long to hire people who could.

I give Josh Whitman a ton of praise for making some homerun hires in Underwood, Bielema and Green. He hired Lovie Smith and Nancy Fahey also but at least he made a change of direction and made the football and women's bball teams respectable. The shocking part is how fast everything has transformed.

I just stared at this for a good 5 minutes - completely unreal. Anything like this turnaround in any sport?!
The biggest single-season turnaround in college basketball was Iowa State last year. They went from 2-22 in 2020-21 to 22-13 in 2021-22. The major difference would be that Iowa State made the NCAA Tournament 7 of the previous 10 seasons. Meanwhile, we haven't made the NCAA Tournament since 2003. Considering the history of the two programs, I think inarguably our turnaround is the more impressive feat. No one in their wildest dreams could have predicted we'd be this close to an NCAA Tournament birth at the beginning of the season. Hold serve at home and win 1 or 2 away games and we should be easily in the tournament.

Edit: I just looked up our highest win total ever. It was 1996-97 when we won 24. Considering our fairly easy remaining schedule, if win the games we are favored and take 1 or 2 in the B1G Tournament, we have a serious chance to top that, which is wild.

Is she playing against low level competition? Not like it matters if she is putting up 40-50 points a night. Thought I remember reading somewhere that she could have went to a Prep School and decided to stay at high school where her mom coaches instead. I know she comes from a long line of athletes in her family.
