Given her team's record, Shauna Green would be a revelation even if she were as dull as dishwater. But she's not. She's a passionate advocate for her team and is constantly doing things to build momentum for her program. Josh Whitman might need to be aggressive in order to prevent a Kevin Hambly situation where we lose a coach to a top-five program in the sport.

Just got done watching an exciting Lady Illini victory..

Words really can't describe the job Shauna Green has done in her first year at UI

Exciting style of play , uptempo with awesome FG & FT shooting......
Mckenzie with an awesome stat line...double double with 6 assists..5 steals
Cook and Burgess deadly accurate shooters

Great win and now onto SCUM for some roadkill

A wonderful bounce back from the disappointing effort in the loss to Purdue. Was hoping to see the ball go thru the net early. It was a physical game and as usual we were playing a much taller team. Tonight the team were aggressive and played tough D.

Adalia had a terrific game. Cook played all 40 minutes. Thought the Spartan press would turn the tide in the 4th quarter but we battled and hung on for the win.

The atmosphere in SFC was electric as the game reached the final minutes with just over 5000 in attendance. It was also fun to see Jonelle Polk McCloud’s jersey raised before tipoff. All in all a great win. On to Michigan.

Shauna should be at least B1G COY but nationally, she should be a solid contender. She will bring more talent in so we can become a conference contender yearly and to get good runs in the dance.
Greeted this morning with a drop out of the top 25

As they should be. We have gone 1-1 for 3 weeks straight

The win vs Iowa was great! Otherwise since that win we have been winning the games we should win and lose the ones we are not favored in. The Purdue game was a toss up and not a bad loss. Likely the top 7 teams are getting in the tourney if they hold to form.

How in the hell do we drop out of top 25 because we lost to a team who just beat the #2 team in the country?????

Literally because we are 3-3 in the last 3 weeks. We have lost to good teams but doesn't change we are 1-3 vs top 25 teams and that is the least amount of wins of the 7 possible Big Ten teams making the tourney. Ladies have slipped a few spots after 1-1 weeks and other teams bump up.

I don't think Illinois has looked like a top 25 team lately and have no problem with it. That isn't a knock on the ladies just from watching how they have played and even struggled against some of the lower tier teams. AT Michigan and vs Minnesota this week. If we win both we deserve to be back in, otherwise will stay in that 26-35 range.

The great thing is the ladies are beating the teams that they should. Usually takes an extra year or two to move from just horrible to winning the close games. Exciting time either way!

We went from 22 to 26. It wasn't a huge drop. Get the quad 1 win Thursday against a ranked team, don't suffer the bad loss Sunday, and we are back in the rankings and solidified our chances of making our first NCAA tournament in 20 years. We've broken the unranked streak. It was needed to give the program some attention.

Now, though, it really is about finally getting back into the tournament. We are currently sitting at 35 in the Net and have a serious chance of making it a reality. We only have three more opportunities for quad 1 wins left: Thursday against Michigan, Maryland away, and Nebraska away. We need at least one of those while winning the remaining games. No matter what, I'm excited to finally have an actual reason to tune into the women's selection show.

If we just beat the teams not named Michigan and Maryland I think we have a good chance of getting in. Beat one of those two and we should be a lock. At least I hope so.

Yeah, it's really that Nebraska game. They're 41 in the Net and have beaten Maryland and Purdue, but have lost to Rutgers. They're the easiest quad 1 game remaining. Get that one and hold serve in the games we're favored and we *should* be good. Without that win, we are likely starring at a Net ranking in the high 40s, one quad 1 win (Iowa), and one quad 3 loss (Delaware). Not ideal.

Again, it's just so wild to be breaking down our resume for the tournament. It's everything I've ever wanted.

At the rate Green is going, she'll have a top five program right here in short order. I suspect she might like that better than taking over someone else's program.
I'd be a little concerned with Iowa. Lisa Bluder is 61 and has to be thinking about hanging it up pretty soon. It's a well-established program and only about 90 minutes down the road from Shauna's son's grandparents. Shauna constantly harps on attendance and last year Iowa averaged better than 8,000 fans per game. Bluder also makes about $300,000 more per year. Of course, attendance and salary just might equalize by the time Bluder leaves.

Good info I did not know.

Like AZ, but they only dropped 3 positions? I would think we should have dropped a little each week. To go back and penalize a team makes no sense, especially since Purdue demonstrated exceptional play of late.

Just my opinion of course. Top 5 only matters in women’s game

Also, my counter to that would be Shauna has stated in interviews recently she never really expected to be back in the midwest. She went to Canisius College because she wanted to get out of Iowa. She said her and her husband's favorite place they've lived in is Providence. If anything, she misses the east coast and loves the New England area. So yeah, she doesn't necessarily sound like someone that needs to go back to Iowa as long as we provide the proper environment for her to succeed. Luckily, we have JW, which I think helps a lot in that regard.
It comes up at the 20:33 mark.

Was thinking the same thing I wonder about Connecticut. I don’t know if he has a coaching tree to be the heir apparent.

Not disagreeing but we only dropped 4 spots this week

It all works itself out. Purdue has balanced itself out but Ohio St has now lost 3 games in a row(one of those to Purdue). While Illinois losing to Ohio St is not bad at all, might look less impressive down the road if they would skid more.
