Man looking at that schedule it seems pretty tough, but I know our experience will drag us through some tough wins. I'm m hoping one of the bigs becomes defensive monsters or both...If that happens I'm dreaming BIG..lol

Having said that he's hoping to have an announcement soon . . . he had better have something soon.
Or Shauna will be unhappy. And we don't want that.

She signed a 6 year contract when joining the Illini plus retention bonuses, etc. Shauna will get more $ and already paid well.

If she ever wants to leave for more $ and bigger job there isn't much we can do. We have it good as mutual respect from all parties.

Random that it gets announced once the season rolls around....nope

I honestly think the number of programs that she would leave Illinois for is very small. The programs that immediately come to mind for me are ones like Texas, Baylor, maybe USC, maybe LSU, and perhaps Stanford if Tara Vandeveer's replacement does not work out. Iowa State or Iowa (down the road a little bit) could possibly be an option just because she did grow up in Clinton, IA.

Dawn Staley isn't going anywhere unless a WNBA team ponies up big money or a high-powered NCAA men's program wants to make history. UConn will keep Geno's replacement in the family. As long as she feels like she's valued at Illinois (and I have no doubts that Josh Whitman will effectively take care of that), I don't really see a large number of programs that would entice her to leave.

If Shauna is able to recruit well and build a B10 champion program at Illinois there is no reason for her to go elsewhere. Taking over at a WBB blue blood that was build by somebody else only puts you in somebody elses shadow. Unless she badly wants to move back to IA I think we are safe. JMO. She is a midwesterner so chance of being hired to SEC or school in TX is low. I think Jay would match $$$ for anybody trying to poach her. She was at Dayton for 6 seasons despite making NCAA 3 times in first 4 years so I am confident she had opportunities to move earlier.

Illinois badly managed opportunity when they lost JM and BS. Mackovic got a 50% raise going to Texas which is a historical football power - Illinois did not try to outbid them. Oklahoma native Bill Self got major raise, joined blue blood where he had been an assistant coach, He took over a 30-8 team that lost in NCAA finals year before. Illinois did not try to outbid KS.

Shauna is 11th highest paid WBB coach. big drop off after NCAA champes Mulkey, Geno and Staley.

Probably true. But it only takes one. Get her signed!

No doubt! We are in the honeymoon period for a few years. I'm big on Green and have stated it on here from the beginning. The shine always wears off but she is the the right coach to build this program. It was more of IF Green wanted to leave, she holds the cards.

This isn't a stressful situation. She has 4 years left on deal.....extend plus just working out the $ and all the bonus lingo terms

and increasing the buy-out $$

Well I would say kinda rushing an extension..I love the coach and her plans and great signs improvement but she is in a year where if she played out this contract those freshman she have recruited would graduate... If this is normal to extend then by all means get it done, but having 4 years on a generous deal is not cheating Shauna at all...Of course if we make this year's tournament then by all means let's get it done..

6'1" is nice size.
Plays at basketball academy in Australia.
Hopefully she still has SR season to improve. Not sure since they are southern hemisphere.

The Australian guard looks like a bundle with men’s basketball

Good strategy, if coordinated at all
Finney + Furphy, sitting in a tree........ ????? lol, is this what you're saying???

Lol, that’s a good way to view it too but no. I just meant recruit bundling. Dan’s post right above mine triggered the concept of the women’s program tagging along with the men’s recruiting team to do their own recruiting. Like they could save money. It’s nonsense 😂

I didn't bother to research it, but both of them are attending some 'Academy', so I though perhaps someone had some info that there was a connection between the 2.
