Cory showed some potential. Nice drives to hoop but lacking 3 point shot. Always played hard and was fearless. Hate to lose the experience but probably can replace her in portal. Shauna has nice culture going but you need continuity to keep it.

Either Shauna lost confidence in her at end of season or her knee bothered her more than was discussed.

WBB is morphing into MBB portal mode. Not there yet but looks a lot like the 1st portal year where MBB picked up TSJ and MM.
I’m sure she was listed as not available due to her knee the last few games of the year. Loved her attitude and hustle. Just a little too small for a wing and a little too slow for guard at this level. Wish her all the luck in the world.

Didn’t look to be in great shape either. Wish her well.

I am sorry to see Cori leave but not surprising. The combination of bringing back Bryant and Cook for a 5th year and recruiting a freshman guard made it clear that her days were numbered. Berry and Dolan make me nervous. Berry had a solid year but also convinced me that rankings have minimal value. Allen came in highly rated and was solid given limited playing time, but Dolan has proven a much better player before injury. She might have the highest value in the new world with 3+ years to play assuming she got a redshirt this year. Excited about the freshman but don’t know what you have until they start playing, see above.

Berry was able to contribute immediately and can definitely light it up from 3 point range and mid range. She has good size but I was somewhat disappointed in her lack of athleticism which contributed to her below average defense and below average rebounding.

Dolan showed ability to handle the ball and score. Good size for guard. Not as a good a 3 point shooter as Berry. Good player but not super athletic.

In addition to size we need more speed and atheticism. We have to replace KB 10 rbg. We have to replace Genesis and Makira playmaking ability. Cori was athletic. Hated to see her go.

Berry and Dolan are both going to continue to improve. Smith and Vasconcelos have plenty of size. These four all have 3 more years of eligibility. Along with the 5 freshmen the future is bright.
Next year though we definitely need some help from the portal. Another ball handler for sure to go along with Jasmine and Destiny. Also some speed and athleticism is needed. Aaliyah Guyton and Skylar Jones would be ideal. Although I’m sure there are others out there that would fit our needs. Maybe even more so.
Can’t wait till that first BOOM!
I doubt that next year is going to be as successful as this year. But I would be smart not to under estimate Shauna.

I am really hoping that this heralded recruiting class has some athletes besides Destiny

I keep hearing about Vasconcelos but she only averaged 1 ppg at Baylor. Highly rated Monteverde Academy HS player. We will see next year.

From the little I’ve seen on highlight films I don’t see any elite athletes. Cearah is long, Manuela has a big motor, Erica can shoot the lights out, Naomi seemed pretty good all around. Nobody with Adalia’s explosiveness or speed.
Skylar Jones looked very athletic. But I have no idea if we’re even recruiting her. I certainly would think so.

5’7” height listed. Small again with destiny and Guyton? Or just Destiny.? Maybe AG not interested in competition here?
Background on guyton.
5'7" - not coaches want to play 2 small guards. I guess it depends on talent level - see Lilliard and McCollum at Trailblazers.

Skylar Jones to Louisville. Damn, didn't seem like she gave Illinois a thought at all. Too bad. I'm not sold on Guyton, but Illinois needs better depth. She's not the 3-point threat I think this program still needs, though.

Well I don't get it. I guess ILL-INI ain't good enough for in state talent players most of the time..

Really depends on how the team functions. We will definitely be a much bigger team. There were so many game last year where Bostic was guarding a player 5 inches taller. I think we could be surprisingly good.

I do really hope we can get an athletic wing..

I don't think that Bollin will play. She has been injured most of her time here and at Duke. She went to Duke with a. Injury history. I would love to see her play because she has been all in on her teammates.and earned minutes when healthy but,it just seems like her degree is the best thing for her to get at Illinois.

I wish we could find out who we are going after in the Portal. It would be nice to get some hints on what we are catching.

Nice UConn win. Blowout was unexpected although UConn did crush them during regular season.

2022 and 2024 years SC had mega size to win. Uconn much bigger and athletic than last year Iowa team.
